NFL Insider Reveals Eagles’ ‘Players Have Grown Frustrated With Jalen Hurts’ Amid Philly’s Struggles on Offense

It’s no secret that the Philadelphia Eagles’ and quarterback Jalen Hurts’ level of play haven’t been up to par with their Super Bowl standards set in the 2017 (before Hurts) and 2024 (with Hurts) seasons. Despite their 7-2 record, many of their wins haven’t been pretty.

They’ve been victorious primarily through their defense, with Hurts and company struggling to consistently put up points. So, by the scheme, defending Super Bowl MVP Hurts will take much of the blame. While he shone during much of the 2023 and 2024 seasons, 2025 has been a different story.

NFL Insider Reveals What’s Wrong With Jalen Hurts

For weeks, fans and media alike have been trying to figure out the root of the problem, and one particular NFL insider has the answers.

Dianna Russini of The Athletic shared details of what’s been off with the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback this year.

“After doing some digging and asking people inside the Eagles building, it was explained that multiple offensive players have grown frustrated with Jalen Hurts’ approach this season, particularly against zone coverage. They believe he’s become hesitant in tight windows, leaning on checkdowns or scrambles instead of trusting what’s open downfield.”

It’s completely understandable for the Eagles players to be frustrated in this particular situation. In the past, including at times this year, Hurts has flashed the ability to be a great thrower of the football. It hasn’t shown up often enough, and as a result, he ranks 21st or lower in the categories of passes completed, passes attempted, and passing yards per game.

PFSN’s quarterback impact grades currently rank him 9th, with a score of 83.8, largely because of the top 10 rank in many quarterback rushing statistics.

Much of the offensive outcry has come from superstar receiver A.J. Brown, who only has 408 receiving yards through Week 9, projecting him to finish with 770 yards – his lowest total of his entire seven-year career.

Hurts’ struggles have certainly come at A.J. Brown’s expense, but the same can be said for fellow superstar running back Saquon Barkley. Coming off a 2,000-yard season in 2024, Barkley has just 579 yards and four touchdowns on just 3.9 yards per carry. With Hurts’ difficulties passing, defenses have locked on to stopping Barkley.

According to PFSN’s running back impact grades, Barkley is not playing at his best, with a 74.1 mark, which is lower than that of running backs like Blake Corum, Tony Pollard, and Kenneth Walker III.

Thankfully, Hurts and the Eagles still have time to turn their offensive struggles around before the playoffs. They’ll face the Detroit Lions on Sunday Night Football this week, with matchups against the Dallas Cowboys and Chicago Bears to follow.
