San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings exited the team’s NFL season opener against the Seattle Seahawks with a shoulder injury.
Despite his absence, the 49ers secured a 17-13 win, an impressive result for the team considering the circumstances.
What Happened to Jauan Jennings?
Jennings was injured in the second half. Later, during the game’s broadcast on Fox, it was reported that he “can barely lift his arm.”
Before exiting the game, he recorded two receptions for 16 yards. The 49ers were already missing another key piece with tight end George Kittle sidelined, who didn’t return to the game, out with an injury.

Jennings recently inked a new contract with the 49ers that includes $3 million in playing-time incentives. He missed nearly all of training camp and the preseason while recovering from a calf injury.
Latest Update on Jennings’ Injury
On Tuesday, September 9, NFL insider Ian Rapoport provided an update on Jennings’ injury. “At this point, it does not appear Jauan Jennings’ shoulder injury is serious,” he wrote. “Some good injury news after a rough one on Monday.”

Schefter then provided another update on Jennings. “Additional scans today on Jauan Jennings’ shoulder came back clean,” He wrote. “The 49ers wide receiver avoided any significant injury, per source. Jennings now will be considered day to day, and has a chance to play Sunday at New Orleans.”
Jennings avoiding a serious injury is a major boost for the 49ers, who will be without Kittle for the foreseeable future. The star tight end suffered a hamstring injury in Week 1 and will miss multiple games.
Moreover, quarterback Brock Purdy sustained shoulder and toe injuries in the season opener. His status is uncertain for the upcoming game.
What Were Fantasy Players Looking For From Jennings?
Going into the season opener, fantasy managers had been considering adding Jennings to their rosters. What did the forecast look like? PFSN’s Kyle Soppe had some words of wisdom to share about Jennings.
“There aren’t many ‘ball knower’ takes in my work, and that’s by design,” Soppe wrote. “I believe that attention to detail on the numbers side of things can tell you everything you need to know, and, if done right, layered with plenty of context to give you a stable foundation without ever having to put your hand in the dirt.
“The Jauan Jennings situation, for right now at least, is a ball knower opinion,” Soppe wrote. “Either you think he’s a talented player ready to break out, or you’re approaching him with plenty of caution.
“To be honest, I fully understand both sides, and when that is the case, I opt for the cautious approach,” Soppe wrote. “On one hand, those in the corner of Jennings remember the big games from last season. They remember a sharp route runner, combined with play-making, and landing himself on a list like this.”
Since Jennings’ shoulder injury isn’t serious, he could be available to feature in the 49ers’ Week 2 game against the Saints.
