The National Football League, or “No Fun League”, as some would call it, has struck again. As part of their weekly set of fines, this Philadelphia Eagles star is the latest to be hit. It’s not too hefty a fine, but one that would surely make a dent in the average American’s yearly pay. Regardless, it’s the latest instance of the league attempting to eliminate taunting from the game entirely.
Philadelphia Eagles DB Cooper DeJean Hit With $11,593 Fine
With the Eagles ahead of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 14-0, the officials weren’t playing around. RB Bucky Irving was taken down by Cooper DeJean, one of the Eagles’ best draft picks in recent memory.
After winning a Super Bowl last season, vibes are higher than they’ve ever been before. Knowing how the Eagles had their way at the start of their game against the then-unbeaten Buccaneers, DeJean was feeling himself, but now pays the price.

“There’s a lot of things you can’t do anymore with the taunting role,” Kevin Burkhardt said. “The Allen Iverson step over, probably not one of them. They’re calling it all the time.”
Tom Brady responded, “I had a lot of people step over me when they sacked me and I had a lot of urges to fire my right arm up there where the sun doesn’t shine.”
DeJean was hit with a penalty during the game, and now he was struck with a fine. Elsewhere in the league, star RB Christian McCaffrey of the San Francisco 49ers was hit with a hefty $23,186 fine for the use of his helmet. The NFL has been handing out plenty of those fines as well, doing everything in their power to send clear warnings to the players.
While DeJean’s rookie contract is only worth $9.28 million, that $11K isn’t going to cause any sort of dent in his day-to-day life. He was caught in the latest instance of the NFL issuing penalties and fines more than ever before, something Brady never had to deal with during his playing days. If the league wants taunting gone, they will continue to do everything in their power to send that message.
Regardless, the Eagles improved to 4-0 despite QB Jalen Hurts not completing a single pass in the second half. Hurts, the 15th-ranked QB in PFSN’s Impact Metric, has only earned himself a C+ grade through their first four games. Overall, they ranked 18th in PFSN’s Offense Impact metric.
