NFL Analyst Skip Bayless Slams Patrick Mahomes for Being Called the ‘GOAT’

The Sunday Night Football showdown was a slow-scoring affair in which Mahomes recorded a QBR of 19.7. Kansas City fell behind early and never held the lead as CJ Stroud and company outscored them by 10 points in the end. It was one of Mahomes’s career-worst performances, and everybody noticed, including veteran analyst Skip Bayless.

He took to X and criticized the quarterback’s “lousy” showing, mentioning that fans will likely excuse it due to the numerous drop catches by the receivers.

“Mahomes had a lousy game considering he’s on pace to be the “GOAT,’” he posted. “But now you’ll hear he had 6 drops. But 14 of 30 isn’t even 50%, for 160 yards, at Arrowhead in a gotta-win??? Just lousy.”

Mahomes failed to get the job done, as he threw for only 160 yards, no touchdowns, and three picks. The Texans maintained a steady push throughout the game, opening the scoreboard with a field goal by Ka’imi Fairbairn.

The Chiefs, ranked eighth on PFSN’s offensive impact metrics, failed to get anything going in the first half. They took to the halftime locker with nothing on the board, while Houston notched a touchdown in the second quarter, when Stroud found Woody Marks for a 9-yard touchdown to conclude the longest scoring drive of the game.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid managed to light a fire under his men in the locker room, as they came out guns ablaze in the third quarter. Running back Kareem Hunt ended a 56-yard drive with a 2-yard rush into the end zone. Kicker Harrison Butker then tied up the game right before the fourth, with a 36-yard shot at goal.

Although it looked like the game would go down to the wire, the Chiefs’ offense once again fell flat in the final period. None of its drives delivered fruit, and Houston outscored Kansas City 10-0 in the quarter.

Texans running back Dare Ogunbowale ran in a 5-yard touchdown for the visitors to reclaim the lead before Fairbairn later extended it with another field goal at the end. Houston sent the hosts to 6-7 on the season, trimming down their odds of seeing the postseason next month.
