California Governor Gavin New Roosom signed five draft laws on Saturday designed to decline against immigration enforcement policies in the Trump administration, a group of legislation he described as a defense of the values of diversity and integration in the state.
“There is a word that you have not heard before from the head of the United States, and certainly not Stephen Miller,” New Nora “This is pluralism. We are practicing pluralism. It is a deep pride point. These values are under attack.”
According to the Newsom Office, the draft laws were formulated in response to the suppression of federal immigration that was launched after President Trump took office and was accelerated after the administration supported aggressive ICE operations.
Several new laws focus on public schools. One asks employees to notify students and parents when ICE and customs enforcement agents are confirmed that they are on the campus. Other federal employees prevent entering a school without a judicial order and preventing schools from sharing personal information for students.
Other measures that extend beyond school protection. One of the law requires federal agents, who may not wear the uniform, to display a form of emblem or identity. Another, is scheduled to enter in January, local and federal law enforcement officers are prohibited from wearing masks during service.
The mayor of Los Angeles Karen Bass described the legislative package as necessary protection. “All this legislative resistance is to protect Angelinus from our federal government,” Pass said in this event.
Federal officials immediately pushed. “The state of California does not have a specialty on the federal government,” US lawyer Bill Islelli said in a statement, adding: “If Newsom wants to organize our agents, he must go to Congress.
Tricia McLeulin, a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Internal Security, replied that criticism, in a separate statement, said that “the politicians are trying to ban the officers who wear masks to protect themselves from being violated and targeted by well -known and suspected terrorist sympathizers.”
The political battle is not limited to Washington. Save America announced on Saturday that it launches the mobile “Liberty” trucks equipped with professionals trained to document and photograph ice raids across California.
Supporters of legislation frame the measures as a reaffirmation of the role of California as a budget for federal policy. “Because America’s promise to opportunity, dignity and justice should surrender to fear and hatred,” said Fabian Nunez, a member of the California State Council.
Most of the new laws become effective immediately, except for the ban on the mask, which will start in January.
