Centennial, COLO. (KDVR) – A new video clip shows a stolen truck reported trying to stay away from the deputies of Douglas County.
Shortly after the start of the chase, the stolen truck was discovered by an automatic license plate reader on Wednesday night on the 25th and Castle Pines Parkway.
Representatives arrested three people on various charges.
“These cameras are the changes in the absolute games of law enforcement. They keep societies safer. There are many crimes committed in our society committed to the use of stolen vehicles,” said Douglas County Sharif Darren Weekly.
A camera spokesman says that helped 21 % decrease in car theft in 2024 compared to 2023.
In Denver, it was also said that the cameras have led to a decrease in car theft, but the council voted on a contract with the agency that provided them with, saying that there are privacy concerns.
“The Flock Pilot program will continue at the end of 2025. We will spend the next few months of the year working with society and members of the council to ensure the treatment of privacy concerns. We hope to continue this program during the end of 2026 and beyond.”
“The use of collective monitoring systems through law enforcement, bad actors and companies, and creates a clear threat to privacy and civil rights,” said Ivan Bubov, the temporary communications official of the Regional Civil Liberties Union.
Once again in Douglas County, Sharif says that the license plate readers are designed only to discover licensing panels on crime -related vehicles.
“You will tell the deputy’s blow to what they need to know. Are you stolen? Is there a missing person?” He said weekly.
Nearly 200 Douglas Sharif County office vehicles are also equipped with a mobile license board reader. There are 35 other fixed cameras that have been published throughout the province. A spokesman for the Douglas Sharif County Office said the administration was planning to expand the use of cameras.
