WASHINGTON (AFP) – The Democratic Senator in New Jersey Cori Booker was holding the Senate floor with a marathon speech that lasted all night until Tuesday morning in an end to endure to show the demolition of Democrats from President Donald Trump’s actions.
Booker moved to the Senate Hall on Monday evening, saying that he would stay there as long as he was “physically capable.” The 55 -year -old Senator was clearly exhausted on Tuesday morning as his speech extended to 15. It was a great offer to endure – among the longest in the history of the Senate – where Democrats are trying to show their frustrated supporters that they are doing everything they can compete for the Trump agenda.
“These are not normal times in our nation,” Booker said at the beginning of his speech. “They should not be dealt with this way in the Senate in the United States. The threats threatened by the American people and American democracy are dangerous and urgent, and we must all do more to stand against them.”
Booker has been eliminated against discounts in the social security offices led by Trump Counselor Elon Musk and government efficiency and spoke about fears that the broader discounts in the social security network may come, although Republican lawmakers say the program will not be touched.
After reading glasses hit and died, Booker read what he said was letters from the voters. One of the writers was concerned about the Republican President’s talk about the annexation of Greenland and Canada and “a constitutional crisis looming on the horizon.”
“I hear you. I see you, and I am partially standing here because of messages like you.”
On Tuesday morning, Booker received some assistance from Democratic colleagues, who gave him a break from talking to ask a question. Booker said he would surrender to the questions, but he would not abandon the Senate Hall.
According to the Senate website, the record of the longest individual speech belongs to South Carolina, who was swinging for 24 hours and 18 minutes for the 1957 Civil Rights Law. With its reaching 15 hours, Booker’s speech was the eight longest in the history of the Senate.
Only two Senators occur to sitting longer. Senator Jeff Merkeley, a democratic in Oregon, spoke for 15 hours and 26 minutes against the nomination of the Supreme Court Judge Neil Jorsh, and the Senator Ted Cruz, a Republican in Texas, to the floor for 21 hours and 19 minutes to compete for the law of reasonable prices.
Booker Thursmond and Civil Rights Commander, MP John Lewis from Georgia on Tuesday morning, arose on the pretext that changing history will require the audience to participate.
“You think we have obtained civil rights one day because Strem Throng – after overcoming 24 hours – you think we got civil rights because he came to the ground one day and said:” I have seen the light. “No, we got civil rights because people walked for them, and they sweat for that, and John Lewis runs out for that.”
Booker, 55, spends his second term in the Senate. He was a failed presidential candidate in 2020, when he launched his campaign from the steps of his home in Newark. He went out after struggling to obtain a foothold in a crowded field, after a meeting threshold in a discussion in January 2020.
While Democrats are looking for the next generation of leadership, who are frustrated by old ones, a Booker discourse can enhance his position as a leading figure in the party’s opposition to Trump.
Before moving to the national political stage, Booker was a rising star in the Democratic Party, where he served as the mayor of Newark, the largest city in New Jersey, from 2006 to 2013. He is a Rhodes researcher and graduated from Stanford University and Yale Lu, who started his career as a lawyer for non -profit organizations.
He was first elected to the US Senate in 2013 during a special election conducted after the death of the current Democrat Frank Lottenberg. He won his first full period in 2014 and re -elected in 2020.
