Austin (KXAN) – The new real estate law adopted by the Austin City Council will now require all the new and new Austin housing, to have air conditioning.
On Thursday, the City Council adopted the 2024 technical construction code, which makes it no room for housing, including rental homes, apartments and homes, must rise more than 85 degrees. The updated requirements for the real estate code will enter on July 10, according to the city of Austin.
According to the city’s housing department, this proposed change “will have a neutral impact on the affordable housing.”
This comes as a result of Record 2023 Heat Wave, which was the most important summer in Austin. The new standards depend on the decision of the city council that was approved in August 2023, which focused on “improving the ability to live and public health in high temperature conditions,” according to the city.
We all realize how hot it is abroad. “I cannot imagine that anyone is able to live, not to mention living comfortably in this climate, if they do not have air conditioning,” said council member Ryan Air change during the meeting on Thursday.
The mayor Pro Tim Vanessa Fuentes said in August 2023 that the city needs to make sure that society “includes health, health and health.”
“We want to make sure that people can be cold in their homes and that they have – they know that the rights they have are available to them.” “We want to make sure that we encourage good behavior. We know that most owners are working in good faith, but for these few bad actors, we want to make sure that our residents are, we are rented to know what they can do in these incidents.”
