The Ruling Army in Myanmar announced the temporary ceasefire in the country’s civil war on Wednesday to facilitate relief efforts after an earthquake of 7.7 killing more than 3,000 people.
The sudden announcement of military leaders who head the government also came late on Wednesday on government television, which said that stopping in the fighting would continue until April 22 to show sympathy for people affected by the earthquake on Friday.
This announcement was followed by a temporary ceasefire from one side announced by armed resistance groups opposing military rule, and the army warned that these groups should refrain from attacking and re -assembled the state, or facing “necessary” measures.
The resistance forces have also maintained the right to fight for self -defense.

The damaged buildings were seen in the wake of an earthquake on Friday in Naybito, Myanmar, on Wednesday, April 2, 2025.
Earlier on Wednesday, rescuers pulled two men from the ruins of a hotel in the capital of Myanmar, the third from a guest house in another city, and another in the second city in the country, Mandalaay, five days after the earthquake. But most of the teams only found bodies.
The earthquake hit mid -Friday, the longest thousands of buildings, the running bridges and toxins. The death toll rose to 3,003 on Wednesday, with more than 4,500 people. Local reports indicate much higher numbers.
The earthquake has already worsened a terrible humanitarian crisis due to the civil war in Myanmar. More than 3 million people were displaced from their homes and nearly 20 million needed even before reaching the United Nations.
Dramatic rescue in Myanmar Capital
In the capital, NayPyitaw, a team of Turkish and local rescue workers, used a laparoscopic camera to locate Naing Lin Tun on the bottom floor of the damaged hotel where it was working. They pulled him cautiously through a hole across the ground and carried it to Gurney about 108 hours after it was first.
He was without a shirt and covered with dust, he looked weak but conscious in a video clip released by the local firefighting administration, as he was equipped with IV and took it away. The state -run MRTV later said that rescuing another man from the same building, more than 121 hours after the earthquake was hit. Both were 26 years old.
Another man, a 47 -year -old elementary school director, was rescued by a team of Malaysian and local crews from a collapsed guesthouse in the town of SAGAING, near the earthquake center near the second largest city in Myanmar, Mandalay, where a fourth rescue operation was reported on Wednesday night.
The earthquake also shook the neighboring Thailand, causing a tall construction building in Bangkok. One body of the rubble was removed early on Wednesday, raising the total death in Bangkok to 22 with 35 injuries, primarily at the construction site.
Resistance groups have announced the ceasefire
The Myanmar Army seized power in 2021 from the democratically elected government in Aung San Suu Ki, which sparked what turned into major armed resistance.
The ceasefire was announced earlier this week by the Popular Defense Force, which is the armed wing of the National Unity Government, and the Muslim Brotherhood’s alliance, a trio of guerrilla warfare of ethnic minorities.
This had pressed the military government for his deletion.
He said it is too early to determine whether the fighting stop could lead to something longer. “This will require very active diplomacy to convert a human pause into something more permanent. This is not guaranteed,” said Morgans.
The military leader scheduled in Thailand
The military government was particularly vulnerable to bad publicity this week because its leader, the chief of General Min Aung Hinging, was expected to make a high -level visit to a regional conference in the Thai capital on Thursday.
It will be the first in a country other than the main supporters of his government and supporters – China, Russia and Russia is an ally of Belarus – since he attended another regional meeting in Indonesia in 2021.
Min Ong Hinging and other leaders are avoided and many Western countries are punished for taking over the year 2021 and human rights while trying to crush their rule.
An attack on the Chinese Red Cross convoy
Before the announcement of the ceasefire on Wednesday, an opposition militia affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood alliance reported that the army fired a convoy of nine Chinese Red Cross vehicles late on Tuesday in the northern part of the state of Shan.
TA’ANG National Liberation said that the Chinese Red Cross was bringing supplies to Mandalay and informed it to the army.
But Major General Zu Min Ton, a military government spokesman, said that the convoy had not notified the authorities on an early way, MRTV said. While the Red Cross did not mention, he said that the security forces were fired in the air to deter a convoy that refused to stop.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Qouh Jiakoun did not comment on the attack. The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Cross Communities said it was looking into the matter.
More international heads of aid to Myanmar
The two countries have pledged millions to help helping first aid organizations and humanitarian aid organizations with the upcoming huge task, while sending specialized search and rescue teams and the establishment of field hospitals.
India and China, both of them are Myanmar’s neighbors who compete to influence there, was particularly fast and generous with help. Many other countries have sent teams, including Türkiye, Vietnam, Singapore and Malaysia.
The United States government has pledged $ 2 million in emergency aid and sent a team of three people to assess the best ways to respond in light of the severe discounts of US external assistance.
The extent of destruction is still unclear
Most of the details came so far from Mandalay, which was near the earthquake center and NayPyitaw, about 270 km (165 miles) north of Mandalay.
Many areas do not prefer energy, phone, or mobile connections, and it is difficult to access through the road, but more reports have begun to flow.
In the town of Singo, about 65 km (40 miles) north of Mandalay, 27 gold mines were killed in a cave in a cave.
In the Inle Lake area, a famous tourist destination northeast of the capital, many people died when the houses built on wooden pillars in the earth collapsed in the earthquake, according to the new global light of Myanmar.
