Bangkok (AP)-The ruling army in Myanmar said on Saturday on government television screens that the certain death number of a devastating earthquake reached 7.7 volume to 1644, as more bodies were withdrawn from the ruins of dozens of buildings that collapsed when they were struck near the second city in the country.
The new total is a sharp rise compared to the total of 1002, which was announced just hours ago, confirming the difficulty of confirming the losses on a large -scale area and the possibility that the numbers will continue to grow from the earthquake on Friday. The number of injured people increased to 3408, while the missing number increased to 139.
Rescue efforts are made especially in the major cities in Mandalay, City No. 2 in the country, and NayPyitaw, the capital. But although the teams and equipment have been transported from other countries, they are hindered by airports in those cities that have been damaged and seem to be not suitable for aircraft.
Myanmar, also known as Burma, is in the labor of a long civil war, and is already responsible for a humanitarian crisis. It makes the movement throughout the country difficult and dangerous, making relief efforts and raising fears that the death toll still can rise.
In the middle of the day on Friday, the earthquake with the earthquake center is not far from Mandalay, followed by many final tremors, including one of 6.4. The buildings were sent in many areas that fall on the ground, the roads that bind, causing bridges to collapse and exploded.
In Naybyidaw, the crews worked on Saturday to repair damaged roads, while electricity, phone and Internet services remained in most of the city. The earthquake dropped many buildings, including multiple units that include government civil service employees, but this section of the city was banned by the authorities on Saturday.
More damage in Thailand
In neighboring Thailand, the earthquake shook the Greater Bangkok region, home to about 17 million people, and other parts of the country.
The Bangkok city authorities said that the number of confirmed dead is now 10 years, and it is nine at the site of high -end collapsing near the famous Chateoshak market in the capital, while 78 people were still missing. The Efforrs rescue continued in the hope of finding additional survivors.
On Saturday, more heavy equipment was brought to move tons of rubble, but hope was fading between friends and family members in the missing people who will be found alive.
“I was praying because they had survived, but when I got here and saw the ruin-where could they be? In what angle? Are they still alive? I still pray that all the six are alive,” said Naromol Thongilk, who is 45 years old, crying while she was waiting for news about her partner, who is from Myanmar, and five friends working on the site.
Waenphet Panta said she had not heard from her daughter Kanlaynee since a phone call about an hour before the earthquake. Her friend Kanlaynee told that he was working in the building on Friday.
“I pray my daughter safe, and she survived and that she is in the hospital,” said Kanliani’s father sitting next to him.
The Thai authorities said that the earthquake and subsequent tremors felt in most of the country’s provinces. Many places in the north have reported damage to residential buildings, hospitals and temples, including in Xiang May, but the only losses were reported in Bangkok
Myanmar sits on a big error line
Earthquakes are rare in Bangkok, but are relatively common in Myanmar. The country is on the mistake of the epic, which is a major mistake in the north and south that separates the Indian painting and the Sunda plate.
Brian Babti, the earthquake in British geological survey, said that the earthquake caused an intense floor in an area where most of the population lives in buildings designed from wood and brick construction.
“When you have a large earthquake in an area where there are more than a million people, many of whom live in weak buildings, the consequences can often be catastrophic,” he said in a statement.
Natural disaster at the top of the civil war
The Myanmar government said that the blood was high in demand in the most affected areas. In a country where previous governments were sometimes slow to accept external aid, Main Ong Hinging said Myanmar is ready to accept external assistance.
The Military in Myanmar seized power from the elected government in Aung San Suu Ki in February 2021, and is now involved in a civil war with firm militias and its forms of newly formed democracy.
The military forces continued their attacks even after the earthquake, with three air strikes in the northern state of Cayenne, also called the state of Karenini, and South Shan – both of the borders of Mandalay State.
EUBANK told Associated Press that in the area where he was working, most villages were already destroyed by the army, so the earthquake had little impact.
He said: “People were in the woods and I was in the woods when the earthquake struck – it was strong, but the trees have just moved, this was for us, so we had no direct impact other than that the Burma army continued the attack, even after the earthquake.”
In Northon Chan, May Rocco, the editor of a militia member, may God bless him and grant him peace, said that an air strike on a village controlled by the rebels just minutes after the killing of seven militia members and wrapped five buildings, including a school.
Government forces have lost control of many Myanmar, and many incredibly dangerous places or impossible for relief groups to reach them. More than 3 million people were descended due to the fighting and about 20 million in need, according to the United Nations.
“Although a complete picture of the damage is still emerging, most of us have not seen such destruction,” said Haider Yakb, a country manager in Myanmar to the NGO plan, from Yangon.
The control tower at Myanmar airport collapsed
The satellite images of the AP analyzed satellite show that the earthquake overthrew the air traffic control tower at Naybyitaw International Airport as if it were lucky from its base.
The photos showed on Saturday that the debris is scattered from the top of the tower, which took control of all air traffic in the Myanmar capital, the pictures showed on Saturday.
It was not immediately clear whether there were any collapse injuries, although the tower would have obtained employees inside it on Friday.
Rescue groups are heading to Myanmar
China and Russia are the largest arms suppliers to the Myanmar army, and it was among the first to take humanitarian aid.
China said it had sent more than 135 rescue staff and experts as well as supplies such as medical groups and generators, and pledged about $ 13.8 million as emergency aid. Hong Kong sent a 51 -member team to Myanmar.
The Russian Emergency Ministry said it had flew in 120 rescuers and supplies, and the country said the country that Moscow had sent a medical team to Myanmar.
Other countries such as India and South Korea send auxiliary, and the United Nations allocating $ 5 million to start relief efforts.
US President Donald Trump said on Friday that Washington will help in responding, but some experts were concerned about this effort given the deep discounts of his administration in foreign assistance.
