NexStar-In a follow-up to a story we played earlier in the month, we asked many of the largest Texas agencies if they plan to return workers away from the office. We have found at least eight agencies that have already returned at least some workers, or planned to return some of their workers at least on Monday 31 March.

“No directives have been submitted recently to our employees regarding remote policies. All of our employees are currently required to work full time in the office,” the agency spokesman said on Wednesday. The statement was identical to one of them sent to Nexstar earlier this month.

In our initial reports, an unknown employee shared an internal email from CEO Brent Carlton. “We know that some of you have heard from other agencies that changes in remote work policies are coming. We have heard this too, but we have not yet received official directives. As of today, there are no changes in TMB. We will update you when we have more information,” the email says.
Email continues, “Meanwhile, we may all want to think through different scenarios, needs or plans if changes are made. We understand that these changes will be difficult for some employees. We will do our best to provide as much support as possible.”

The Ministry of Health at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (DSHS) did not respond to our inquiry about this story, but in our previous reports, a representative with DSHS sent a bulletin from the Commissioner Dr. Jennifer Fordord. The update confirmed that the agency felt pressure to make the employees remotely return to the office.

“Since the remote work license in TDA was very limited in the scope and the return order was implemented, there will be no noticeable change in our presence in the workforce in Austin in the coming days or after that,” wrote Madison Gowrito, the ministry’s communications director.

“Some staff groups inside TRS are planning to return to the office personally, from Monday, March 31,” said Rob Maxwell, director of the media relations program. “Since TRS reconsidates the work policies remotely for the entire agency in the next few months, we maintain our focus on the most effective and efficient ways to meet the needs of our members at the state level. We will continue to keep our employees in view.”
