Mountain View barber accused in dozens of sex crimes captured in Guatemala

(KRON) – The 34-year-old Mountain View barber accused of sexually assaulting unconscious victims has fled the United States while free on bail in 2024. Franklin Enrique Sarcino Orla was arrested in Guatemala and extradited to the Bay Area, police announced Friday.

Orla was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on Thursday and faces 46 charges with more than 60 victims, according to the Mountain View Police Department. Before he fled the United States, the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office formally charged him with sexually assaulting two men, one of whom was kidnapped.

One victim reported to police in July 2024 that he lost consciousness, and when he woke up he was injured as a result of a sexual assault, according to investigators. A second victim told police he passed out while having drinks with Orla, who was his barber.

Franklin Enrique Sarcino Orla’s California driver’s license photo has been released by SCCDAO.

Orla was initially arrested in the case in August 2024 and posted $250,000 bail. On November 20, 2024, the Public Prosecutor’s Office announced that Orla was a fugitive.

Evidence seized by authorities showed that Orla videotaped several sexual crimes, according to the prosecutor’s office. Prosecutors said the victims appeared unconscious or severely intoxicated during the assaults.

The Mountain View Police Department said several international agencies were instrumental in Orla’s arrest and extradition, including the U.S. Marshals Service, the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office, the U.S. State Department’s Diplomatic Security Service, the U.S. Embassy in Guatemala and Guatemalan authorities, and the Justice Department’s Bureau of International Affairs.
