Menabolis – Melissa Hortmann, former Speaker of the Democratic Parliament in Minnesota, was honored for her legislative achievements and humanity during a funeral on Saturday, as former President Joe Biden and former Vice President Kamala Harris joined more than 1,000 mourners.

Hortmann was shot dead two weeks ago by a man demonstrating as a police officer in an attack by federal prosecutors in Minnesota assassination. She also left the shooting of her husband, Mark, Mit and Senate member and his wife seriously.

“Melissa Hortmann will be remembered as the most dependent spokesperson in the history of Minnesota. I remember her as a close friend, teacher and more talented legislator.” “For seven years, I had the honor to sign its agenda in the law. I know that millions of Minnesotanists are getting their lives better because they and Mark chose public service and politics.”

Service

Biden nor Harris spoke, but they sat in the front row with the ruler, who was the Rafik Harris in 2024. Biden was also one of more than 7,500 people who paid their respect on Friday as Artamman, her husband, Mark, and their golden back, Gilbert, in the state in Minnesota Capitol Rotunda in Saint -Paul. Gilbert was seriously injured in the attack and had to be disposed of. Biden also visited the wounded in the hospital.

Hortmann, who was first elected in 2004, helped pass a wide agenda for liberal initiatives such as free lunch meals for public school students during the important 2023 session as a speaker in the room, as well as the expanded protection of abortion and transit rights. With the House of Representatives divided 67-67 between Democrats and Republicans this year, it resulted in clothing to a republic under a power-partial deal, and took the champions of the emerita, and helped break a dilemma in the budget threatening the state government.

The ruler’s memorial

Walzz said that Hortmann saw her mission “to get as possible people as possible as possible.” He said that her focus on people is what made her very effective.

“She certainly knew how to get her way. There is no doubt about it,” Walz said. “But she never made anyone feel that they had received a negotiating table. This was not part of it, or part of those who were. You did not need another person to lose to win it.”

The ruler said that the best way to honor Hortmann will follow their example.

Walz said: “Perhaps this is the moment that each of us can study the way we work together, the way we talk about each other, and the way we fight for the things we care about,” Walz said. “A moment for each of us can adhere to engaging in politics and life in the way Mark and Melissa did, with enthusiasm, warmly, but without losing the sight of our common humanity.”

Sermon

Reverend Daniel Griffiths, a sponsor and president of the university in Basilica, who led the service, said the country needs a deep recovery. He said that it seems as if the United States lives in the “Dystopian” described at the beginning of William Beatr Yates poem, “The second coming”.

Griffiths said: “Here in the state of Minnesota, we were the zero place, unfortunately, for racial injustice,” Griffiths said. “George Floyd has killed miles from our church today. Now we are in a zero place of political violence and extremism. Both should be honored in the strongest possible terms, as it is, respectively, a threat to human dignity and indeed our democracy.”

But the priest also said that Minnesota could also be a “zero place for restoration, justice and healing.” He added that the presence of many people was a sign that this work could succeed.

Bishop Bishop Bernard Hepda of the diocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis of his condolences to the Hortman family.

A special burial will be held at a later time.

After service, Walz presented children with us and the minnesota Flags that flew over the Capitol on the day their fathers were killed.
