(Kron)-The Mercy High School in Burlingame has begun in a $ 27 million project to build the first sports life center and students ever, which represents a great milestone for the school.
The new facilities will include a gym and a group of organization, which are additives that affect the entire Catholic Girls School. Currently, students must travel to 20 miles to use other school facilities for sports and games.
“Of course, this is a tremendous moment for Mercy High, but today more than that,” said school president Natalie Serilliano Prosnan. “Today a moment to celebrate fair opportunities for young women, and celebrate the victory over all girls.”
The construction site was blessed on the last day of the summer vacation, with students, faculty members, employees, supporters, and gathering graduates on the campus to watch the event. The new center is expected to enhance the school’s sports programs significantly.
About 76 % of the Student Authority participates in at least one sport, and the presence of a home court is an enabled for students. One of the students said: “Playing on the field with our slogan is really like empowerment,” said one of the students. Another added, “Being in the volleyball team and having to play in different stadiums, this means a lot that we will have a home court.”
The project has become possible through many large donations, but the school still needs to raise an additional million dollars before the end of the year. Society hopes that new facilities will provide a more enriching experience for current and future students.
