The elected mayor described the city of Auckland “divided deeply”, and it plans to unify society.
Lee, 78, is Trailblazer who represented the city in Congress for more than two decades last year after running in vain to the US Senate. Democracy was the only black women elected in the House of Representatives from the northern Los Angeles.
“I will do hard work and make difficult decisions, knowing that we will all do it together,” said Oakland’s next mayor. “Finally, Auckland elections are based on a voting system in the rank, and there were other candidates in the race who also presented their visions forward. I congratulate everyone who did so, and thank you – the society we serve – to participate in these historical elections. While the challenges are many, opportunities are great.
