Maxx Crosby Makes Bold Prediction on Aaron Rodgers’ NFL Future As 4-Time MVP Weighs Options

Las Vegas Raiders star Maxx Crosby has no inside info on Aaron Rodgers’ football future — just a gut feeling and “the universe telling me” whether Rodgers will suit up in 2025.

Crosby had already shared how he felt about Rodgers earlier this offseason. He thought it would’ve been “legendary” to have Rodgers quarterbacking the Raiders, but Las Vegas ended up making a blockbuster trade for Geno Smith.

That dream scenario didn’t pan out. Still, Crosby remains in awe of the four-time NFL MVP.

Maxx Crosby Ponders Aaron Rodgers Joining the Steelers

Rodgers is reportedly deciding between retirement or joining the Steelers. He visited Pittsburgh’s training facility for six hours on March 21 — a “positive visit,” per ESPN’s Adam Schefter — but left without signing a deal.

Now, everyone’s wondering what he’ll do next.

Crosby, who doesn’t have an intimate relationship with Rodgers, shared his bold prediction on the “Rush with Maxx Crosby” podcast. The four-time Pro Bowler doesn’t see Rodgers heading to Pittsburgh.

“I think he retires,” Crosby said. “I’ve been saying it … and I think the fact that he isn’t with Davante [Adams], and he’s not very familiar with Pittsburgh, I just … I don’t know, I feel like he retires. He’s what? 42 now?”

Rodgers turned 41 in December, but the veteran still had a few solid moments in 2024, earning a 72.2 overall grade in PFSN’s QB+ metric. Seeing him in a Steelers uniform would be intriguing to many — including Crosby.

“I would like that. I feel like that makes sense … him going to the Steelers, and I think they need a quarterback,” Crosby said. “They need a guy who’s a vet, a proven dude, but I just don’t know. I don’t see that as a thing. I can’t see him in a Pittsburgh uniform. My brain can’t put that together.

“I think it’s good for the league when Rodgers is playing. I’m a fan of Rodgers. I respect the hell out of him. I think he’s an incredible player. I think it would be dope [to see him in Pittsburgh]. I feel like the universe is speaking to me, and I can’t see him in that uniform. And he’s been weirdly quiet for a reason.”

How Much Does Rodgers Have Left in the Tank?

Beyond the retirement buzz, the big question is how much Rodgers has left. Last season, he threw for 3,897 yards and 28 touchdowns with a 63% completion rate in 17 starts for the New York Jets. It wasn’t always pretty.

Rodgers was benched late in a Week 18 blowout despite chasing his 500th career touchdown pass. The Jets lost that game 40-14.

PFSN ranked Rodgers No. 21 in their end-of-season quarterback rankings. Here’s how he graded out:

“If Week 18 is to be Aaron Rodgers’ last game as a professional, he’ll be pleased to have not finished in the style he played in Week 17. He produced some fantastic numbers in the clutch and finished with 7.1 nYPA. However, a 0.03 EPA/DB and 37.5% third-down conversion rate hardly paints a pretty picture.

“On the season, Rodgers has a -0.02 EPA/DB (27th), ranks 36th from a clean pocket (0.07 EPA/DB), and has converted just 33.5% of the time on third down (29th). His 6.2 nYPA ranks 30th and is very low, considering he’s getting 5.8 YAC/Cp, which ranks ninth this season.”
