(KRON) – A 45-year-old man was arrested for breaking into a UC Berkeley sorority house during the early morning hours of Nov. 1, stealing food and women’s underwear, and watching women shower, the Berkeley Police Department said.
Police were called to a South Campus sorority house in the 2300 block of Waring Street after an unknown man was spotted inside a sorority girl’s bedroom and exited out the back door around 6 a.m.
“Officers located other women who had seen the suspect at the sorority house as early as 3 a.m.,” the Berkeley Police Department said. “When officers reviewed security video from the home, they found multiple clips of the suspect walking in and out of the building until approximately 6:35 a.m. — even leaving, changing clothes and then returning with different clothes as well as a ski mask.”
Investigators with the department’s Sex Crimes Unit used security footage and additional evidence to identify the suspect as Courtney Alford of Dublin.
Using automated license plate readers, investigators found multiple images of an Alford in the area around the time of the burglary. An arrest warrant was issued for Alford on November 4. Police found Alford in Castro Valley the next day and arrested him.
Officers searched Alford’s home in Dublin after the arrest and found parts of an assault rifle, high-capacity ammunition magazines and more than 900 rounds of ammunition.
The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office charged Alford with burglary, prowling/peeping, invasion of privacy, felon in possession of a handgun, felon in possession of ammunition, and several counts of unlawful entry.
