(BCN) – Marin County Agricultural officials alert real estate owners and quarrels to be looking for a small gas beetle attacking oak trees, after the insect was discovered last month in Novato.
Marin’s agricultural officials said that XyleBorus Monographus is about one inch and ends in tunnels in a stressful oak, most of them are oak wood and also other white shapes such as Oregon White and Blue Oak.
“Education around the beetle is important, but unfortunately, it cannot be eliminated and has become more prevalent in our region,” said Joe Devini, Marine Agricultural Commissioner. “It was just a matter of time for this gas scourge in our boycott.”
Hold the beetles and the fungi grow in the tunnels, then nourish the fungi. They can live and reproduce inside the tree for generations. Female beetles can fly, but males do not.
Initially, the beetles attack the crown of the tree, kill the ends with the growth of the injury, and eventually spread to the trunk and kill the tree.
Borers usually prey on trees that are already emphasized. “Many oak orchards and forests throughout California are suitable for this model,” the Ministry of Agriculture said in a press statement.
The beetle was identified in Wadi Wadi in Novato on May 23, 2025, the beetle was identified in Wadi Wadi in Novato on May 23, 2025. The insect was first discovered in Napa Province in 2019 and has been found since then in nine provinces.
The search is still done on the best control options, including whether any California trees have natural resistance.
In Europe, where the medium white oak digger is a citizen, it only attacks the trees that already die, and only one generation per year. In California, the beetle hunt both stressful and healthy trees and can have multiple generations annually, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources at the University of California.
The extent of the distribution of beetles was not determined in the provinces of Naba, Sonoma and Lake, according to the Ministry of Agriculture at the University of California. It also spreads quickly in Sacramento Province, and has been discovered in El Dorado, Yolo and Mendocino provinces.
Officials do not believe that the beetle has yet spread to other parts of the state.
“However, there are great potential to expand the beetle range as it can be transported in affected wood and females can fly,” said the University of California Agriculture Department in a post on its website.
Agricultural officials are working with Marin’s office at California Cooperative University and Marin Province, cooperating with government pest management and laurels in efforts to detect the digger, study and education.
House owners are urged to monitor the crowns of trees, and if they see a decrease in the growth of the leaves in one or more branch or monitor other symptoms of the injury, it is encouraged to search for an expert’s evaluation of accredited trees.
