Family members said that a man detained federal immigration agents in Boumona was released from the reservation on Wednesday, a day after a group of daylight workers was detained during a nearby raid outside the home warehouse.
Martin Magin Lyon has been run by Hallaq Store on Holt Street in Bomona for nearly 20 years. On April 22, Martin surveillance footage showed his store early in the morning.
He comes out of his car to open a gate and after seconds, surrounded by a car and four -wheel drive vehicles, where many factors are quickly approached by paid rifles.
“They get it under the threat of the weapon and surrender,” said Martin’s son, Miguel Magin, to Chilby Nelson for KTLA. “I think it is not necessary to use weapons. My father is not a criminal.”
At a press conference on Thursday, the Martin family gathered to exchange more details about his detention. Miguel read a letter written by his father in the Spanish language that was translated into English:
“I am a husband, father and small employer who lived and worked in California for more than 39 years. I have been built here, and I raised my family here, paid paid taxes and contributed to my community every day throughout these years. On the morning of April 22, they were detained without previously notifying more than 30 hours.
Martin said that the ordeal left him afraid and shock. He was later transferred to an Indio facility, then El Centro, before arriving at Riverside.
On Wednesday, his family managed to recover him after his release from the Riverid Court Hall.
Although Martin said he was previously deported in the early first decade of the twentieth century, he said he had nothing to hide and cooperate with the authorities in his case.
Martin said: “The charge against me is a migration case for more than 20 years,” Martin said. “I want to be clear – I am completely cooperating with the legal process and confidence that the court will consider the life facts that I created here in the United States.”
The Martin family said they still have many unanswered questions. They believe that customs and border protection were behind the arrest. Ktla arrived at the section and waited for confirmation.
However, the agency confirmed that it participated in the detention of a group of daytime workers outside the Home Depot store in the same morning in which Martin was detained.
Hilton Beckham, Assistant Commissioner in Customs and US Border Protection, issued a statement of the incident, saying:
“The agents conducted an operation in Bomona, targeting an illegal foreigner with an active arrest warrant. During the process, nine illegitimate foreigners faced and detained.
As for the Martin case, his family said they are looking for a legal advisor about what they should prepare to move forward. Martin’s upcoming court date is scheduled for May 29.
