Lyle Menendez parole hearing set to begin after brother Erik is denied release

One day after his brother’s offer to release him, the 57 -year -old Lille Mindez will appear in front of the California Caliphine Release Committee on Friday.

Before a session began on Thursday, both brothers had to leave the prison, spending more than three decades to kill the rifles for their fathers, Jose Mainndes and Mary Luiz “Kitty”, at their home in Beverly Hills.

However, after holding a virtual hearing for approximately 10 hours behind closed doors in California Prison, his younger brother, Eric Minendes, 54, was rejected, 54 years old, from his request to be released Thursday evening.

The committee cited serious violations of the rules during the prison, including the use of the illegal cell phone and the participation in the tax fraud plan, as major factors in its decision.

“Basically, I spent the first five hours talking about the murder against his parents, previous theft and violations. Violations, in my opinion, are what eventually led to denial in this case,” said Criminal Defense lawyer Alison Tersel.

During Thursday’s session, Commissioner Robert Barton explained that although he advised other prisoners and obtained a university degree while they were in prison, continuous criminal behavior such as a mobile phone smuggling in prison and obtaining other prisoners to hide it was the red flag.

The Commissioner also focused on the violent nature of the killing “such as” Kitty, which he described as “free of human sympathy”, especially given that it was a victim of domestic violence at the hands of their father.

“The killing of your mother in particular showed the lack of sympathy and mind,” Barton said. “I can’t put myself in your place. I don’t know that I have ever been angry to this level, at all.”

Prosecutors said that the killing of Jose and Kitty in 1989 was to achieve financial gains, but the brothers claim that all of this was in self -defense after years of abuse.

They were sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of conditional release, but they were in May to 50 years, giving them the right to conditional release.

Eric Menendes also spoke at the session, apologized for what his family put and thanked them for their support.

Eighteen family members who support the launch of the brothers issued a statement after Thursday’s decision.

“While we respect the decision, the result of today, of course, was disappointing and not what we were hoping. But our belief in Arik is still fixed and we know that it will take the council’s recommendation in a step.

Officials said Eric Mendes will be eligible for a conditional release again for 3 years, but he could submit a petition for a previous hearing.

The Lyle Mendez session is scheduled to start at 8:30 am on Friday.
