NEXSTAR – Lieutenant Dan Patrick announced nine members of the Senate – seven Republicans, two Democrats – who will work on the recently announced Senate Selection Committee on preparing for disasters and floods.
Senator Charles Perry, R-LUBBOCK, will be the chair of the committee, who will meet in Austin for the first time on July 23. Sens will join him. PETE FLORES, R-Pleasanton, Paul Bettencourt, R-Houston, César Blanco, D-Iel Paso, Donna Campbell, Kolkhorst, R-Brenham, José Menéndez, D-SAN ANTONIO and Charles Schwertner, R-EGEORGETOWN.
After the first session in the Capitol, Patrick said that a subsequent hearing will be held in Kurville, Texas, July 31 for the residents of the region to testify before the committee.
The governor of the state, Greg Abbott, added multiple flood elements to the agenda of the private session, including increasing disasters and improving emergency alert systems. Such bills were not presented at the time of publication, but the officials said in the days that passed on the flood that they wanted legislators to investigate the best path to work before announcing a specific legislation.
Bettencourt previously announced that it will submit a draft law in the “First Opportunity” to create warning alarms in areas in areas most vulnerable to floods in the river valleys.
