Los Angeles Mayor Bass signs city budget to preserve services, bolster police force

The mayor of Los Angeles Karen Bass signed the city’s budget on Friday.

The newly signed budget will maintain city services such as street repair, traffic management, gardens and library programming maintenance. This will also help bring new jobs to the Los Angeles Police Department, according to the mayor’s office.

“The city council leadership will specify the funds of 240 additional recruits within 90 days,” Bass office said in a press statement. “The money will be used after LAPD will meet 240 officers.”

The financing of vital services such as street repair, traffic and gardens and maintenance of the library program in the budget, which was not easy to provide according to the head of the mayor.

“This budget has been delivered under very difficult circumstances – from Washington, the explosion of responsibility payments, and the costs of unexpected and less than expected revenues,” the mayor said. “This budget continues to combat the displacement crisis strongly and invest in response to emergencies and biomedics services such as street repair, gardens and libraries. I would like to thank the City Council for meeting this deal and we are working together to make Los Angeles safer for everyone.”

According to the mayor’s office, the city’s budget includes:

  • Recovering more than 1,000 jobs in the city is at risk of workers’ demobilization to ensure the provision of vital services such as hole repair, traffic management and parking that supports future housing development and more
  • New investments in the Los Angeles Fire Fire Department with more positions, financing more paramedics and other resources and support
  • Financing for all right officers and firefighters
  • Continuing financing for messengers in emergency situations 9-1-1 to reduce waiting times
  • Protection of the financing of the homeless
  • Resources to continue leading Palisades Fire Recovery with urgency
  • Keep the hours of libraries, gardens and entertainment facility hours
  • Support for capitalist infrastructure projects, including employees to plan and coordinate the Los Angeles Conference Center, financing the Sepoda basin improvements and entertainment facilities in San Fernando Valley and South Los Angeles
  • Trainers to maintain all positions within the emergency department department with priority to expand with future financing
  • Continuing funding for representation to provide legal representation for Agelinus
  • Financing to keep all animal shelters open and add additional strategic employment support
