Local vets seeing more ticks on pets in the Denver metro, high country

Westinster, Colorado (KDVR) – Local veterinary doctors want to convey a message to parents about parents about the ticks have become more prevalent in Colorado.

“One of the other veterinarians on the other day was a annual test, and seven lists found one dog,” said Dr. Riley Farrell of the Hindi Terry Hospital. “For years, it was not a problem, but now we see more and more.”

This last issue was about a 5 -year -old German sponsor, and veterinarians believed, gathered all the ticks from a field next to their home in Westminster.

“We believe that the matter may be related to the weather, and we see more ticks rise,” Farrell said. “We are witnessing an increase everywhere, but Colorado was the shock.”

Farrell said they see more ticks with height, but they also see cases of dogs getting marks in the Denver Metro area. She said it could happen in walking or walking long distances.

Farrell said it is important to speak to the veterinarian about the prevention of fleas and the mark, and also to be proactive by examining your dogs or cats outdoors of the tick. She said that parents should check between the toes and the shells, along with the ears, and if you have a thin dog, to look closely.

“We have signs we have a lot of disease, they are carrying bacteria,” said Farreel. “Not every sign, but we do not know what we did not test.”

Farrell said if you find a sign, you can try to remove it, just make sure that the tick head is completely removed. She said, from there, be sure to monitor your pet for any individual behavior or symptoms. In most cases, if you find a sign, Farrell said it is just a total, but in some cases, it can become severe.

“In severe cases, there are things like tick paralysis with some poison in ticks that can cause our animals to be able to move,” Farrell said. “It is rare, but it can happen.”

The tick can also carry Lyme disease, but it said it is more prevalent in the tick on the eastern coast of Colorado.

Farrell said: “anywhere, deer, raccoon, or rabbit can go, they can bring ticks with them,” Farrell said. “So, if you have these in the yard, they will be there.”

She explained that the tick loves to accommodate the longest grass and jump from the end on your pet.

Farrell has gone on a web where you can follow tick trends throughout the country. You can Find this site here.
