Live Aid 40th anniversary: Judas Priest, Rick Springfield, John Oates and Bob Geldof reflect on concerts from Philadelphia, London

New York — Forty years ago, legendary direct aid parties aim to do a lot of good – which helps to raise more than $ 100 million to relief in famine in Ethiopia and inspire awareness all over the world for some reason.

Simulcast from Philadelphia and London on July 13, 1985 was the most ambitious global TV event: 16 hours of live music in two different continents of Queen, LED Zeppelin and more.

Many have changed in the years since then. “In 85, it is the same distance followed by World War II of living aid.”. “This is how long have it been.”

The artists who performed in Live Aid – Springfield, organizer Bob Gildov, Hall and Utz John OTS, were reflected in the event – on the event and its impact on interviews with the Associated Press before the fortieth anniversary on Sunday.

This is what they said:

Reflections on an unprecedented event

At John F. Kennedy in Philadelphia, Springfield between Run -DMC and Reo Speedwagon – just a taste for the diversity of artists who appeared in the National Cross squad. He says, “Run-DMC, I remember I was thinking,” What is this? Three players talk about a record player. What is this? I didn’t know that it was about to change the entire game.

Hall and Utz John Ots had a different experience. His band also played in Fili – their hometown – and in 1985, his band was one of the largest philosophy on this planet. They played near the end of the night, and joined Eddry Kendrix “Eddie Kendrix”, David Roven and Baithaa on stage to support Mick Jagger in Rolling Stones. British Rockstar had a trick.

“He didn’t tell us that he was Tina Turner,” says Otz. “We trained a certain amount of songs with him. But when he brought it out, he just raised the energy level and you cannot believe it.”

Judah’s singer Press Rob Huffford calculates “Mike and Tina, of course,” as one of the most prominent Feli Live. “LED ziplene, too.”

But the most exciting for everyone for heavy metal player? Interview of the popular hero Joan Baez. The band had previously covered classic “diamonds and rust”.

He recalls, “I thought, my God, she will come and kick me in the donkey to destroy her beautiful song.” “She gives me a quick hug and goes,” the reason why I am here is that my son told me, if I see Rob Hafford from Judah Brest in the display of direct aid in Philadelphia, will you tell me that I am the best version of Judah Brest on my mother’s version? “… it was a symptom of such kindness.”

From live aid to live 8 and beyond

Twenty years after Aid Live, GELDOF LIVE 8 – a greater pledge in the new Internet era, with 10 concerts at one time and all over the world.

If the trend will continue, then there should be another event that happens this year. It is worth noting, not there.

GELDOF says that this can not be a vital aid event in 2025. It is cited social media as a reason. In his opinion, the algorithm fracture made it impossible to create musical moments and a homogeneous activist. Instead, the current media scene is seen as a “echoes of your biases”.

For something like a live aid for work, “You need rock and roll music as a creature for social, economic and technological movement,” he says. “And I think the era of rock music is enhanced.

Springfield is agreed. “I think we are very divided,” he says. He believes that the world will not be able to agree on one reason to support it, or even the musicians they claim. “You can never do anything the size of direct aid unless it is a kind of global object,” Let’s gather everyone. “

“Never say, but I strongly doubt it,” says Otz. “The scene of music and entertainment has changed in general significantly.”

He refers to “We, the World”, which is the 1985 charitable song to relief the African famine that included the voices of Michael Jackson, Willie Nelson, Bob Dylan, Ray Charles, Diana Ross, Steve Wons, Smoki Robinson, Paul Simon and many others, for example. “The idea of happening with today’s stars in one place, I cannot even imagine that. In conjunction, who will be? … How many songs are they released every day?”

We hope the Live Aid will continue

Huffford repeats the feelings of the other. He says: There is “an indispensable extremism in the world now,” that would make a living aid event challenge in 2025. But he does not think it is impossible. Fire Fire Aid is used in January – Benefit La Wilfire concert that includes Billie Eilish, Stevie Wonder and Nirvana Reunion – as a modern example.

“There will always be sympathy from people,” and in the right hands, another event can happen like Live Aid. “It was a very beautiful human example … gave us the opportunity to do something ourselves to help.”
