Lincoln University shooting: Multiple shooters suspected; FBI seeking photo, video evidence after 1 killed, 6 hurt

LOWER OXFORD TWP, PA — There are still many questions about A deadly mass shooting on the campus of Lincoln University of Pennsylvania this weekend.

One person was killed and six others were injured in a shooting Saturday night, and one person remains in custody.

Authorities do not believe it was a planned mass attack; rather, the shooting appears to have erupted suddenly in the middle of homecoming activities, they said.

It happened around 9:30 p.m. Saturday outside the International Cultural Center during homecoming festivities after the school’s football game.

Police said, in a press conference on Sunday evening, that they believe more than one person fired shots during the incident.

Chester County Prosecutor Christopher DeBarina-Sarobi held a news conference Sunday evening about the shooting at Lincoln University the night before.

Investigators are reviewing video from people who were at the scene and are asking anyone with footage to do so Share it with the FBI.

Authorities identified the person killed as JoJuan Jeffers, 20, of Wilmington, Delaware, and said he died shortly after midnight after being shot in the head.

The six people who were infected are expected to recover, officials said. Their ages range from 20 to 25 years. One is a current student at Lincoln University and the other is a graduate. The others have no direct connection to the school, according to officials.

Zekeus Morgan Thompson was arrested and charged with carrying a concealed weapon without a license. Investigators have not confirmed whether his weapon was used in the shooting. He is being held in the Chester County Jail on $25,000 cash bail.

Lincoln University, a historically black university, is located in the southeastern part of Pennsylvania.

The university said, in a statement on social media, that classes will be canceled on Monday.

“What happened last night was tragic for our students, our families and our community.” The statement said. “Gun violence occurs all too often in our country, and we are deeply saddened that Lincoln University and its students are among the latest victims of this senseless violence.”

Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro said in a letter to X on Sunday afternoon that his administration has been in contact with university officials since the shooting occurred. The governor said he offered the state’s “full support” to Lincoln University President Brenda Allen, adding that Pennsylvania State Police stand ready to assist Parina Sarobi’s office in the investigation.

The weekend “should have been spent celebrating the legacy of our country’s first-class HBCU, not putting the pieces together after a mass shooting,” Shapiro said in the statement.

Shapiro added that he and his wife, Lori, “are praying for the six people affected, the anxious families, and the one soul who won’t come home. May their memories be a blessing.”

Lincoln University suspended classes for Monday. Counseling services will be available seven days a week.

The university will also hold a healing and meditation event at noon Monday.
