Lakewood mom demands answers after son killed in Denver jail

KDVR-Mother Likwood, who topped the headlines last year, faces a cake company at home to pay the price of the grave of her son now another unimaginable loss.

His son Angela Hernandez was killed, and Vincent Chokkkon, while he was detention at the detention center in Denver in the city center. According to Henandez, the family was told that Checkouk was released, to learn a few days later that he died in the reservation.

“We received a text from Denver Province on Saturday, saying they had released him,” she said. “Monday morning, they said they did not have there. Then on Tuesday morning, the pathologist called to tell me that he had passed.”

Denver police say the suspect is Ricky Lee Royal Smith, 43, who has a lengthy criminal history, including previous arrests of assault and domestic violence. Hernandez says her son, who was being held on charges of traffic, should not have been placed in the same unit.

She said, “They should be responsible for putting it in the same cell. Within three hours, it ended up.”

The accident is now being investigated as a murder. Denver Sharif has yet to comment on how to accommodate Checkkun and Samith together.

Hernandez is now planning another funeral – and demands accountability from prison.

“I just want justice for my son,” she said.

Fox31 has reached the Denver Sharif Province Department for more information.
