KBVO Game of the Week: Weiss hands Anderson first loss of the season in finale 28-7

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Anderson’s attempt at an undefeated regular season was spoiled by a hungry Weiss team Thursday night at The Pfield in Pflugerville.

The Wolves upset the eighth-seeded Trojans 28-7 behind four touchdown passes from sophomore Jackson Schad, three of which went to his older brother, Dallas Schad.

Weiss bounced back from a 35-31 loss to College Station last week. A win over the Cougars would have set up Thursday’s showdown as one for a share of the District 12-5A1 championship, but the Wolves stubbed their toe. But they didn’t do that on Thursday.

Weiss took a 21-7 lead with less than five minutes left, hooking a 79-yard pass from Jackson Shadd to Trey Moore. It was the only Wolves touchdown not scored by two shads.

The Jackson-Dulles connection was responsible for the others. The first came early in the second quarter on an 8-yard pass and the second just before halftime. Jackson had to escape the collapsing pocket, and after getting away from Anderson’s pass rush, he threaded a 19-yard pass toward the end zone that Dallas jumped to intercept. Weiss led 14-0 at halftime.

The duo found each other again with 7:40 left in the game. Jackson placed a ball near the front left corner of the end zone, and Dallas ran under it with a sliding catch, dragging his toe behind him to make it legal. The 18-yard score was decided by the most dramatic play of the night, a 58-yard run by Elijah Jasper that looked like a negative play when it started.

Jasper broke up four tackles for Anderson just to get past the line of scrimmage, then raced down the sideline to make a huge play to set up the Wolves’ final touchdown of the game.

Weiss (8-2, 5-2) finished fourth in the region and will face La Porte, the District 11-5A1 champion, in the bi-district qualifying round. The date and time of the match have not yet been announced.

Anderson (9-1, 7-1) will, at worst, share the district title with A&M Consolidated. The Tigers play Lockhart on Friday.

It is the second time in school history that the Trojans have won at least a share of the district championship. They will have the top seed out of the district into the bi-district round, playing Friendswood at 3pm on Saturday at House Park.
