K-9s, drones, search teams find missing mother and son reported missing near Echo Lake

DENVER (KDVR) — Crews searched mountains Clear Creek District for a couple of hikersa mother and son, were expected to return on Sunday, and were successfully located within an hour.

According to the Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office, crews were in the field as of approximately 6:30 p.m. Monday searching for the duo, who were expected to return from Echo Lake Sunday afternoon or evening. By 7:15 p.m., the missing hikers were located at Evans Ranch.

While crews were in the field, the snow began to fall, and so did the temperature. Overnight temperatures in Colorado’s high country could drop to midnight overnight Monday, according to the FOX31 Pinpoint Weather team.

Echo Lake is located along Mount Blue Sky Scenic Drive, which is closed for the season.

“Your positive thoughts about the missing hikers and rescue teams are appreciated,” the sheriff’s office said on Facebook.

The sheriff’s office said the mother is 60 years old, about 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs about 130 pounds. She’s probably wearing a purple ski coat with blue jeans and tennis shoes.

The son is described as 25 years old, about 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighing about 200 pounds. He was wearing a brown jacket with a white collar, blue jeans, and tennis shoes.

Anyone who sees the mother, son or both is asked to call 911.

As of Monday night, there were “dozens” of searchers from the Alpine Rescue Team and Douglas County Search and Rescue, as well as several canines from Front Range Rescue Dogs and search teams. Drones are also used in research.

Denver Parks and Rec and Clear Creek Fire Authority are also assisting with the incident.
