Jimmy Kimmel’s family has expanded! The late-night TV host revealed that he became a grandpa after his eldest daughter, Katie Kimmel, welcomed her first child.
The television personality ended up canceling his scheduled episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Monday, May 20, and for a good reason!
“We were supposed to have a show last night, but we didn’t because my daughter had a baby last night,” Jimmy, 57, said during the Tuesday, May 20, episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! “My oldest daughter – you know, people don’t realize, people that know I have two little kids, they don’t know I have two older kids.”
“My oldest daughter, she’s 83-years-old,” he joked. “Her name is Katie. Katie and her husband, Will, had a baby girl right at the time we shoot our show last night. So I decided to be there instead of here.”
Jimmy shared the exciting news with a smile on his face, and said that his granddaughter is “very healthy.”
“Her name, they gave her a very cute name. Her name is Melania,” he playfully said. “It’s Melania Thee Stallion.”
All jokes aside, the baby’s real name is Patti Joan, and Jimmy shared the sweet way his granddaughter’s name pays tribute to his mom, whose first name is Joan.
Jimmy then turned to his sidekick, Guillermo Rodriguez, joking, “You were such a great doula.”
“You were reassuring, you were calm, your hands were soft, you were perfect. Thank you so much, on behalf of the whole family,” the TV host said to Guillermo, 54, which drew laughs from the audience.
Jimmy said that there were so many people at the hospital to support Katie and celebrate Patti’s arrival. “We had an army of people at the hospital, it was bigger than Coachella,” the proud grandpa told the audience.
The comedian shares Katie, 33, and his eldest son, Kevin Kimmel, with his first wife, Gina Maddy, whom he was married to from 1988 to 2002. He married his second wife, Molly McNearney, in 2013. Together, they share kids Jane Kimmel and Billy Kimmel.
For Jimmy, family is at the center of his life and every moment is precious. Jimmy has been open about his 8-year-old son Billy’s health issues over the years. Billy was born with a congenital heart disease. He underwent his third open-heart surgery in May 2024.
“Billy’s doing great. He had open-heart surgery; you know he’s got the scars and everything, but he’s just mentally right back where he was which is crazy,” Jimmy told Entertainment Tonight in July 2024.
“Physically, you know, we’re gonna have to be careful with him for a couple of months, but he’s doing really well,” the dad of four added.
In April 2025, Jimmy celebrated his son’s birthday with an update on his condition.
“Today is Billy’s 8th birthday. He is very healthy and strong thanks to the doctors, nurses, therapists, and staff at @ChildrensLA & @CedarsSinai and to those of you who have sent prayers, well wishes and donations through the years,” he captioned an Instagram post with a photo of Billy. “If you can, please make a gift of $8 to support children who need medical care, the link is in my bio. THANK YOU!”
