Jimbo Fisher’s Return Predicted for ACC Team As ‘Match Made in Heaven’ Vacancy Opens Up

Jimbo Fisher has been searching for another head coaching opportunity since being fired and bought out by the Texas A&M Aggies in 2023.

The good news for Fisher is that a position recently opened up in the ACC, and one analyst has predicted that the veteran coach could fill it, calling the role an ideal fit for both him and the program.

Jimbo Fisher Predicted to Make ACC Return After Coaching Opportunity Opens

After being fired by Texas A&M in 2023, coach Jimbo Fisher has yet to return to the sidelines. While he is currently working as a college football analyst for the ACC Network, he expressed his desire to get back to work in August.

Fisher has had several successful seasons as a head coach, including leading the Florida State Seminoles to a BCS national championship in 2013. Despite his firing at Texas A&M, leaving a bad taste for some, he would likely still be highly coveted by many programs.

One potential landing spot could be the Virginia Tech Hokies, who fired head coach Brent Pry on Sunday following a 0-3 start to the 2025 season. With the job in Blacksburg now open, ESPN’s Matt Barrie recently predicted that Fisher could take the position, noting that he would be an ideal fit for the Hokies.

“Can we just go ahead and pencil Jimbo Fisher in at Virginia Tech?” Barrie said. “That’s a match made in Heaven.”

It’s a bold prediction, but one that makes a lot of sense. While Fisher struggled in the SEC at Texas A&M, he has a proven track record in the ACC, winning three conference championships in his eight seasons with the Seminoles.

Fisher is a polarizing figure, with many believing his best coaching days are behind him. However, the discipline and old-school style he would bring to Virginia Tech could be exactly what the program needs.

Since 2020, the Hokies have finished with a winning record just once, in 2023, when they went 7-6. That is well below the standard in Blacksburg, where the football program has a rich history of success dating back to the Frank Beamer era.

While Fisher might not be able to fully restore “Beamer Ball,” he would likely make the Hokies far more competitive than they have been over the last decade and could help them become a true ACC contender.

Fisher is looking for an opportunity to return to the sideline, and Virginia Tech is looking for a coach who can stabilize the program. As Barrie notes, this could truly be a match made in heaven for both sides.
