Jets Predicted To Select 64-TD QB With ‘A Strong Arm and the Ideal Size’ in 2026 NFL Draft

Once again, the New York Jets are trying their hand at building steadily. After getting out from under the Aaron Rodgers business, their next step was finding a new quarterback-coach combo. Aaron Glenn and Justin Fields were that combination they were looking for to usher in a new era. However, signed on a relatively small two-year contract, Fields’ future in New York is, by no means, secure.

His tenure with the Jets, at least for the time being, will depend on his performance. Unfortunately, not many are buying him as a viable option for their long-term answer at the quarterback position. As a result, one analyst has them finding their potential franchise quarterback as early as the 2026 NFL Draft after New York puts together an unremarkable campaign in 2025.

Do the New York Jets Try Their Luck in the 2026 NFL Draft?

After Rodgers promised Super Bowl success, the lack of a postseason appearance altogether was thoroughly heartbreaking. After Year 1 was cut short by a torn Achilles, a healthy season in 2024 didn’t offer significantly better results.

As a result, team owner Woody Johnson was ready to correct the course of the franchise, with Glenn and Fields as his solution. The latter, a former first-round pick for the Chicago Bears, has yet to find a stable home after stints in Chicago as well as with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

A true dual-threat, Fields has immense potential as both a passer and a runner. However, that potential hasn’t translated to success on the field, both from an individual and team perspective. If his year with the Jets does not go according to plan, then New York could be the next team in line to give up on the youngster.

For Mark Stolte, in his latest mock draft for PFSN, the organization isn’t waiting too long to pivot directions with its quarterback room. With the opportunity to draft in the top five, the scope of the Jets’ season is willfully apparent. In that case, Stolte wants them to go after Drew Allar.

The Penn State standout has already made a name for himself as one of the most talented quarterbacks in the entire class. Taking over the starting job for the Nittany Lions in 2023, he put up 3,327 yards and 24 touchdowns in 2024.

“Through all of his faults, he has a strong arm and the ideal size. He is comfortable managing a pocket and ranked 22nd in EPA per dropback on play-action throws — something the Jets need to lean heavily on with such a talented running back in Breece Hall.”

But Stolte believes New York, fresh off the Fields experiment not working out, would want to go in a different direction than his dual-threat talents, making Allar a genuine choice for the job.

The Jets have needed a quarterback to steady the ship for as long as anyone can remember. So far, they haven’t found their man, even after multiple variations. The 2026 NFL Draft offers them a golden chance. Now, they just have to hope that this doesn’t turn out to be a Zach Wilson or Sam Darnold-type situation.
