Jets HC Aaron Glenn Makes Feelings Clear on Breece Hall Trade Rumors Ahead of 2025 NFL Season

New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has been working hard to prepare his offensive schemes for the upcoming 2025 NFL season. One of those schemes will include running back Breece Hall, as rumors swirl about a possible trade.

Despite those whispers, Glenn still believes Hall, along with Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis, has a purpose on his team. The new Jets coach, though, has had to make his stance clearer when facing the media.

Will the Jets Get Rid of Breece Hall Before Their First Game?

On Tuesday, August 19, Glenn was asked about the Jets’ running back room. He shared his forthright thoughts on what’s happening right now.

“We have like three good running backs, and I keep saying that,” Glenn said, according to NFL.com. “Listen, they all have different skill sets that we’re going to utilize. And that does not mean that I’m trading Breece. OK? Does not! So, I’m going to say that right now. I just like having three good guys. Hell, I wish I had more, but we don’t.”

Hall is listed as the No. 1 running back on the latest Jets’ depth chart. Allen and Davis are listed at Nos. 2 and 3, respectively, with Kene Nwangwu at No. 4.

Jets fans might want to prepare themselves for a “running-back-by-committee” plan this season. Glenn wants to give Hall most of the carries, but Allen and Davis will get their fair share of work as well.

Last season, Hall had 209 carries for 876 yards and five touchdowns. Hall, a second-round draft choice by the Jets in the 2022 NFL Draft, has 512 career carries for 2,333 yards, a 4.6 yards-per-carry average, and 14 touchdowns. Hall, who is getting some attention from fantasy players, played his college ball at Iowa State.

Can Aaron Glenn Improve on the Jets’ Last Season?

If Jets fans want to look at Glenn’s previous coaching stop for some clues, then take note that he and Jets offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand were in Detroit last season. They worked under Lions head coach Dan Campbell, who made sure running backs were a key element to his team’s offensive schemes.

Last season, the Jets finished 5-12 under two different head coaches, Robert Salah, fired after getting off to a 2-3 start, and Jeff Ulbrich, who ended up 3-9 in his tenure. Jets owner Woody Johnson wanted to get someone else in the room. Enter Glenn, a native Texan who was the Jets’ first-round choice in the 1994 NFL Draft.

For now, it appears that Glenn wants Hall to stick around and contribute. He knows that having a three-back plan could help the Jets improve their offensive game plans from last season. At least, he’s hoping Hall can help out from the get-go.
