DENVER (KDVR) — The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office on Friday released new information regarding last month’s shooting at Evergreen High School.
The Sheriff’s Office, in a news release, provided a timeline that included the 16-year-old shooter’s movements and response times from school personnel, dispatch and law enforcement to the Sept. 10 shooting. Two students were shot, and the shooter died of his self-inflicted wounds.
“We want to give you the full picture from that day, and we will do so as soon as possible. In the meantime, we can now share some information that will help put some of the rumors to rest,” the Sheriff’s Office said.
Emergency response schedule
According to the Sheriff’s Office, below is an emergency response timeline, which is based on records from Jeffcom 911 and school security footage:
- 12:21:14 p.m.: The first shot was fired inside the school
- 12:21:56 p.m.: Lockdown initiated by school staff
- 12:22:15 p.m.: The first call came to 911 and the caller gathered information.
- 12:22:59 PM: The call has been transferred to a computer queue for dispatchers until then
Dispatch (Deputies can also see this queue. Based on the nature of the call, the Sheriff’s Office First Deputy began heading toward the school immediately (12:23:00 p.m.), before it was officially dispatched.) - 12:23:17 PM: The call was opened and read by the dispatcher
- 12:24:01 PM: The patrol was contacted and broadcast live
- 12:24:09 PM: First responder unit has been officially dispatched
- 12:24:26 p.m.: Another deputy heads toward the school
- 12:27:22 p.m.: First unit on scene (this is a 3-minute response time – Sheriff’s Office said it originally stated 2.5 minutes)
- 12:30:29 p.m.: The deputy confronts an armed man at gunpoint
Chronology of “Shooter’s Movements”
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the following is the provided timeline of the “shooter’s movements,” which was based on the high school’s surveillance video.
- 12:21:14 p.m.: The first shot of the shooter inside the school
- 12:21:26 p.m.: An individual was shot for the first time
- 12:21:40 p.m.: The first victim was shot
- 12:23:30 p.m.: The shooter exits the building
- 12:23:30 PM – 12:26:21 PM: Shooter searches for people and then tries to return to school through several doors
- 12:27:21 p.m.: Shooter walks and runs across the path, moves northeast and then exits camera view
- 12:30:29 p.m.: An armed man at gunpoint confronts a deputy
- 12:31:37 p.m.: Deputies begin life-saving procedures for the second victim
- 12:33:24 p.m.: Law enforcement reports the shooter died from self-inflicted injuries.
The Sheriff’s Office also noted that the shooter “fired multiple shots” at individuals he encountered and reloaded the gun “several times” as he moved around the school.
Matthew Silverstone, an 18-year-old student, remains in hospital. The 14-year-old who was shot was released from the hospital on September 30.
