Jaxson Dart Makes Feelings Clear on Cam Skattebo’s Season-Ending Injury

The New York Giants lost more than a game Sunday in Philadelphia. They lost their most productive rookie, and Jaxson Dart couldn’t hide what that meant to him. His postgame comments revealed the toll of watching his teammate go down with a devastating ankle injury that required immediate surgery.

How Did Jaxson Dart React to Cam Skattebo’s Injury?

Dart spoke to reporters following the game, sharing his immediate response to losing his teammate to a season-ending dislocated ankle.

“Yeah, I was devastated,” Dart said after the 38-20 loss. “It’s my boy, man, so seeing him go down and obviously reacting to what happened, that sucks. It’s the worst part of this game.”

Dart declined to share specifics of what he told Skattebo during the cart ride off the field. The two rookies have grown close this season, part of a young core trying to inject life into the offense.

The injury occurred with 8:07 left in the second quarter at Lincoln Financial Field. Skattebo had caught an 18-yard touchdown earlier in the game before the ankle injury ended his afternoon. He was transported to a Philadelphia-area hospital and underwent surgery Sunday night.

Dart acknowledged the challenge of refocusing after watching his teammate being carted off. “I mean, during him getting carted off, it’s emotional,” he said. “But you try to go back in the huddle and try to just reload and just try to go down and score.”

What Does Skattebo’s Loss Mean for the Giants?

Beyond the emotional blow, Skattebo’s injury has stripped New York of its most productive offensive weapon through eight weeks.

He entered Week 8 leading all rookies with 587 scrimmage yards and six touchdowns, then scored his seventh before the injury ended his season. Skattebo posted a 77.5 RB Impact score with a C+ grade in PFSN’s RB Impact metric, ranking 21st among qualifying running backs.

The Giants have the 28th-ranked offense in PFSN’s Offense Impact metric with a 68.1 score and a D+ grade. Losing Skattebo further weakens an already struggling unit that averages 21.6 points per game through Week 8. Tyrone Tracy Jr. will handle the backfield workload moving forward.

Dart has shown promise as a dual-threat quarterback with four rushing touchdowns this season, including one in Sunday’s loss that trimmed the deficit to 38-19 in the fourth quarter. He holds a 75.1 QB Impact score with a C grade in PFSN’s metric, ranking 21st among qualifying quarterbacks.

Despite the mounting losses and injuries, Dart refuses to accept the current trajectory. “We have to start figuring out ways to win because I hate it, and I’m not used to it, and I’m not just going to accept it,” he said. “I’m not going to be okay with it, and we as a team can’t be either. We have to figure this out.”

New York hosts San Francisco next before hitting the road for Chicago and Detroit. Dart will need to figure out how to lead an offense that just lost its best weapon — and the teammate he called “my boy.”
