It required multiple surgeries, ended his season, and put his career on pause for months. Tampa Bay placed him on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list, and while he was activated in late August, the team has been extremely cautious about bringing him back.
And honestly, who can blame them? Godwin is too valuable to risk rushing. He’s one of the best slot receivers in the league, a reliable third-down target who makes life easier for any quarterback.
The Bucs just gave him a new three-year deal, which shows how much they believe in his future. Right now, it’s all about making sure he’s fully ready before stepping back onto the field.

For now, though, Tampa Bay is playing it safe. Godwin won’t see the field until he’s truly ready, and that patience could pay off big once he’s back in action.
