Irvine couple accused of stealing patient identities in alleged insurance fraud scheme

When patients began all over Orange County, they noticed mysterious charges of medical tests that they had not received before, the path of unsuccessful bills has led investigators to an unlikely source: Mission Viejo Medical Office and a quiet neighborhood in Irvin.

The authorities say that the discovery revealed the insurance fraud plan, as a couple of Irvin, Rebecca Khuraiz, 39, and Juan Pablo Rodriguez, 31, stole more than 21 patients and used information to provide fake insurance claims worth more than $ 10,000.

The case began after many residents filed complaints to the Orange Sharif Province Department, and they reported that health insurance companies had described them by conducting tests and treatments that have never occurred. California’s Ministry of Insurance Investigators soon joined the investigation, and tracked fake fees to patients’ records in the practice of Mission Viejo Medical where Juarez worked.

According to the investigators, Khwariz has secretly reached the computerized medical record system in the office and copying the personal information of patients. She is accused of passing these details to Rodriguez, who claims to have used his arrival in the invoices system for a medical practice in San Jose to create fake medical records.

The authorities said that the records included claims for the Covid-19 test and other procedures that have never been implemented, and were submitted to the various insurance companies between August and November 2023.

On September 16, Khwariz and Rodriguez were called in the Orange County Supreme Court by submitting a criminal complaint concerned with two charges of conspiracy, 21 charges of medical insurance fraud, and 21 charges of stealing identity.

Both were given a conditional edition while waiting for their next appearance in the court, scheduled for December 3, according to the Orange County Lawyer Office, who is being tried.

The state investigators said that the alleged plan confirms the ease of exploiting personal medical data when the insiders can access patient records.
