An international student attending the University of California in Los Angeles has been detained on the borders of the United States and Mexico, where the administration of President Donald Trump continues to cancel student visas across the country.
In a statement, through the newspaper run by students at the university Daily BruyneMary Osako, Deputy UCLA, confirmed that a graduate student was in the reservation.
“The University of California in Los Angeles has learned that an international high school student was detained by customs and border protection in the United States (CBP) while trying to enter the United States from Mexico,” she said in the statement. “The student is still a CBP reservation and we are actively working to learn more information.”
Their identity has not yet been launched, although Los Angeles Times reports That the student is female.
As of Friday morning, it is still not clear that the student was in Mexico, or why it was detained. I tried to return to the United States at the San Ysidro border crossing, directly south of San Diego.
The Daily Bruyne newspaper reported that the students protested on the campus on Thursday, and urged the university administration to “fight” again in the Trump administration.
Officials confirmed that dozens of students at universities across California who have been lawful in the United States have been canceled in recent weeks.
No additional details were provided immediately.
