Inside Elton John’s Summer Plans With His Family Amid Health Issues

Elton John has been opening up about his upcoming summer plans with husband David Furnish and their kids – and a source says he can’t wait to put his health issues to one side and soak up the sun with his favorite humans on earth, who are planning on spoiling him rotten with lots of fun and surprises.

“They will be at their villa in the South of France, that’s where they spend the summer, it is where Elton is most relaxed. As soon as the school year lets out and Zachary and Elijah are on holiday, they will all jet to Nice and pretty much stay put until September,” a source exclusively tells Closer of the singer, 78, and his summer plans with his family of four.

“They will go out and get some yacht time in the Mediterranean for some of the summer, but more than anything Elton likes to stay home. And David and the boys just want to make him happy,” the source adds. “It’s all about his comfort and making sure that he’s really enjoying this time now.”

The source says Elton, who shares kids Zachary, 14, and Elijah, 12, with David, 62, is also planning to have some of his famous friends come and visit him this summer.

“One thing Elton adores is hosting his friends, so a lot of invites have gone out, David wants everyone Elton loves to come see him,” the source says. “Elton is really excited … he’s like a kid that way when he has something he’s looking forward to.”

This comes after Elton got candid after experiencing eyesight issues following a severe eye infection. He first opened up about the ailment in an Instagram post in September 2024.

“Over the summer, I’ve been dealing with a severe eye infection that has unfortunately left me with only limited vision in one eye,” he said in a statement at the time. “I am healing, but it’s an extremely slow process and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye.”

“I am so grateful for the excellent team of doctors and nurses and my family, who have taken such good care of me over the last several weeks,” the statement concluded. “I have been quietly spending the summer recuperating at home, and am feeling positive about the progress I have made in my healing and recovery thus far.”

In April 2025, Elton shared an update on his condition, telling The Times, “I can’t read. I can’t see my boys playing rugby and soccer, and it has been a very stressful time because I’m used to soaking it all up. It’s distressing.”

The “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” singer went on to say, “You get emotional, but you have to get used to it because I’m lucky to have the life I have. I still have my wonderful family, and I can still see something out of here.”

He said that with his vision impairment, he “can’t see the telly” and has not “been able to see anything since last July.”
