‘I Don’t Believe in the QB’ — Super Bowl Champion Takes Dig at Aaron Rodgers, Downplays Steelers’ Contending Hopes

The Pittsburgh Steelers made some major moves in the 2025 offseason. Finally, looking to get over the hump in the playoffs, the Steelers shook up their roster by adding Aaron Rodgers, Jalen Ramsey, and DK Metcalf. With aspirations greater than just making the playoffs, Rodgers and the Steelers have their hands full in a tough AFC.

In recent years, it’s been difficult to trust the Steelers in the playoffs, and the new acquisitions don’t convince former Super Bowl champion Chris Canty.

Chris Canty Takes a Shot at the Pittsburgh Steelers and Aaron Rodgers

Canty dug into the Steelers’ hopes to contend this season. While they certainly made big moves in the offseason, he doesn’t believe Rodgers has what it takes to get them over the hump at his age. Referencing last season with the Jets, Canty wasn’t impressed by his performance as the Jets struggled to win games, and he doesn’t see much changing for Rodgers.

“I don’t believe in the quarterback. I just don’t. They pinned the regression of Aaron Rodgers on injuries that he suffered over the last three years. Whether it’s injuries or it’s age, it doesn’t really matter,” said Canty. He then expressed what actually concerns him about the situation.

He added, “When it comes to the Rodgers of it all, I struggle to see how he is going to raise the floor from what we’ve seen from the Pittsburgh Steelers over the last half-decade. Having experience don’t mean a damn thing if you physically can’t go out there and do the job. And that’s what I am concerned about with Aaron Rodgers for 17 games in the regular season.”

Rodgers is not getting any younger, and this is likely his last shot at another ring. He has dealt with nagging injuries and his season-ending Achilles tear over the previous three seasons in Green Bay and New York. He did appear in every game for the Jets in 2025, which is an encouraging sign.

In Canty’s eyes, experience and pedigree can only take a team so far if its performance isn’t what it used to be. The Steelers made some changes, though, and will have a new-look offense. With a new quarterback, starting running back, top receiver, and new tight end option, the Steelers’ offense has a lot to prove in its early stages.

The Steelers defense added new pieces in Ramsey and Darius Slay, but subtracted Minkah Fitzpatrick. Extending T.J. Watt was massive for the defense, and pairing him with All-Pro Cameron Heyward makes for a dangerous defensive front. With the number of veterans on this defense, they should be an experienced unit, causing problems for opposing offenses.

The veteran defense should be fine, but a new-look offense led by Rodgers is causing concerns for fans and analysts like Canty. In a tough division and a conference containing juggernaut offenses, the Steelers have their work cut out for them if they want to reach the contending status that they are hoping for under Rodgers’s leadership.
