How Peacemaker Season 2 Replaces Zack Snyder’s Justice League – Jimmy Star’s World

A new Peacemaker Season 2 update is sparking discussion, and it centers on the Justice League’s surprising replacement.

The premiere’s “Previously in the DCU” recap has fans talking after it swapped the Justice League cameo from Season 1 with the Justice Gang. The change raises questions about how James Gunn plans to connect the series to his rebooted DCU, especially after the team’s appearance in his Superman film.

Peacemaker Season 2’s Justice League retcon recap explained

In the final episode of Season 1, the Justice League appeared after the fight. It featured Jason Momoa’s Aquaman, Ezra Miller’s Flash, and silhouetted versions of Superman and Wonder Woman. Season 2’s premiere instead opens with a “Previously in the DCU” recap that reshoots those moments. This time, the Justice League is replaced by the Justice Gang, the superhero team introduced in Gunn’s Superman film.

The updated sequence shows Leota Adebayo calling Amanda Waller for Justice Gang’s support. Silhouettes of Superman, Mister Terrific, Supergirl, and Hawkgirl stand alongside Guy Gardner. Unlike the Justice League version, Guy Gardner and Hawkgirl exchange dialogue. Gardner mentions Peacemaker’s insults about him being a “puke freak.” The retcon shifts which heroes exist in the DCU’s canon and brings Peacemaker’s continuity in line with Gunn’s wider plans.

James Gunn explained the approach to canon at last year’s New York Comic-Con, saying, “There are references to things that happened in the past, and those references then become canon in the DCU because we mention them.” (via Comicbook.com)

This method replaces the Justice League cameo from Season 1 with the DCU’s Justice Gang. The recap uses editing sleight-of-hand instead of filming a new finale. It creates a rare instance of retconning past events inside a “previously on” segment.

The Justice Gang lineup includes David Corenswet’s Superman, Milly Alcock’s Supergirl, Edi Gathegi’s Mister Terrific, Isabela Merced’s Hawkgirl, and Nathan Fillion’s Guy Gardner. The same team appears in Gunn’s Superman, creating a direct connection.

By adding the Justice Gang to Peacemaker, the series aligns with the DCU’s new continuity. It recognizes past DCEU events only when the new canon directly references them.
