The Tampa Bay Buccaneers kicked off their 2025 preseason campaign Saturday night with a home matchup against the Tennessee Titans, offering fans a first glimpse at the team’s revamped offense and a roster filled with fresh faces competing for playing time.
Although several key contributors were sidelined for the preseason opener, rookie wide receiver Emeka Egbuka made his NFL debut and quickly showcased the talent that has drawn buzz throughout training camp.

Despite being overshadowed by stars like Marvin Harrison Jr. and Jaxon Smith-Njigba at Ohio State, Egbuka quietly built one of the most productive careers in Buckeyes history. He recorded 205 receptions, 2,868 receiving yards, and 24 total touchdowns over four seasons, including two separate 1,000-yard campaigns and a key role in the team’s 2024 national championship victory.
The Buccaneers selected the wide receiver with the No. 19 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft due to his precise route-running and ability to create separation against man coverage. Regarded as a high-floor prospect out of Ohio State, Egbuka is expected to contribute early in Tampa Bay’s loaded receiving corps.
Egbuka wasted no time making an impression in his NFL preseason debut, hauling in an impresive reception on the Buccaneers’ opening drive against the Titans and displaying the polish that made him a first-round selection.
The former Buckeyes standout lined up with the first-team offense and delivered early, catching a jump ball from quarterback Kyle Trask that moved Tampa Bay into Titans territory. He concluded the night with one reception for 21 yards in his debut.

This play reflected his strong performances during training camp, where he consistently won one-on-one matchups and earned praise from head coach Todd Bowles for his intelligence and route-running. He also drew attention for his versatility by lining up to handle the team’s first punt-return opportunity, although the kick ended up out of bounds.

With veteran receiver Chris Godwin still recovering from a dislocated left ankle injury that he suffered in Week 7 of the 2024 NFL season, Egbuka has capitalized on increased opportunities with the starters. His ability to play multiple positions gives the Buccaneers flexibility in their offense, especially as they assess depth behind veteran Mike Evans.
