Crowds of demonstrators gathered outside the Pico Rivera city hall to protest after a US citizen, who tried to interfere as federal immigration agents were talking to another man, after a violent physical confrontation on Tuesday.
The accident at the parking lot at the sprawling retail center, which includes a house to improve homes in the 8600 Group of Washington Street, reveals.
In shots of the accident, at least half of a half -scale of immigration and customs enforcement agents in the United States is seen in conflict with a young man, which family members have identified as Adrian Andrew Martinez.
Amid the battle, someone can hear screaming, “He is an American citizen!”
The young man seemed to be fighting, but he was soon transferred to the ground and overcame additional agents before he was placed in the back of a customs vehicle and the American border protection.
The family, Sarah Wilsh, told KTLA that Martinez was trying to defend a man who was interrogated by ice agents when the physical confrontation grew.
The accident footage did not pick up the moments before the struggle, and it is not clear that exactly led to the accident.
“I heard that he tried to defend the mission they tried to take.” “I went to school with him, he’s younger than me. I know his sister.”
The accident sparked protests outside the city hall, where the demonstrators were calling the city officials to do more to help society.
“We are really very concerned about what happened here in the city today,” Steve Carmona, director of Pico Rivera, told KTLA. “For the past few weeks, we have put out information about our social media platforms, in addition, other information from the boycott, federal and federal legislators on how residents and migrants community could access resources and help if they need them.”
Despite the federal government’s position that it only targets unusual population with a criminal background, the internal government documents obtained by CNN show that less than 10 % of 185,000 people were arrested by ICE between October 2024 and May 2025 have convictions for serious crimes, such as rape, killing, prize or attractive.
More than 75 % of those who were held during that same period, according to the documents, had no criminal condemnation that exceeded migration or crime related to traffic.
“They are getting everyone,” said Anthony island. “They get people in Carwashes, which sells flowers, which sell ice cream. They are not just criminals.”
While other residents said they had discovered ice agents in other parts of Pico Rivera, the Martinez family is still trying to know where it was transferred.
The man who witnessed the accident said: “It is sad to take people.” “Sometimes these people are American citizens, which is sad.”
KTLA arrived at the Ministry of Internal Security and waited for a response.
