Heavyweight boxing legend George Foreman’s sparring partner Brent Bowers reflects on his comeback

Houston, Texas (KTRK) – Many people can not say they were in the ring with George Foreman, but Brent Power could.

For five years, he held the position of boxing legend and a partner in Houston.

It is a federation that came purely by chance. In 1986, Powers was working for the Al -Douri Boxing Club.

“One of the referees came and told me that the brother of George Foreman was looking for a partner in the debate,” Powers said.

Powers jumped at this opportunity. At that time, Foreman was already an Olympic gold medal and has been ruled for a year as a heavyweight heavyweight champion.

Foreman lost this title during a famous match in 1974 with Mohamed Ali, and it seems that his boxing career ended when Powers met him.

“People thought I was steadfast. O man, you will continue with that old man? Powers recalls, “They laughed and laughed at me,” Powers recalls.

The rejectionists have proven wrong when Foreman regained the heavyweight hero title at the age of 45 during the 1994 match with Michael Moor.

“For me, George is the greatest fighter in all ages because of his return in this era and has never come down,” said Powers.

At that time, Powers was no longer competing with Foreman, but the two remained soon until Foreman’s death on Friday.

“Friends and family told me, Brent said, George Foreman will not love before. He was an average young man. Think about a dog more than a human being,” said Powers.

But Powers said that religion changed Foreman. During his interruption of boxing, he became a decree and began to preach in the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ in the East of Al -Alden in 1980.

In the church, Powers says he saw the last time two months ago, as he presented a sermon on Sunday as usual.

Foreman was 76 years old.
