Pittsburgh Steelers fans are waiting with bated breath to find out who their next quarterback will be, and one of the names getting buzz is Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders. But NFL insider Aaron Wilson says a Sanders-Steelers pairing is unlikely. He reported that the private meeting between the Colorado Buffaloes quarterback and the Steelers brass didn’t go well.
Meeting Between Shedeur Sanders, Pittsburgh Steelers Did Not Go Well
Aaron Wilson, who covers the NFL for KPRC 2 Houston, revealed that his sources say the Steelers weren’t impressed with Sanders during their meeting. He shared what he’s heard during an appearance on Chat Sports.

“I’ve heard he will not be a Pittsburgh Steeler. I heard that the meeting did not go well. And that wasn’t from someone telling me that, because this is always the assumption, that it’s because someone’s trying to affect these boards. But somebody’s picking a quarterback higher than expected.”
The Steelers used one of their 30 available visits to bring in Sanders last week. But Wilson’s report has cast significant doubt on Sanders ending up in Pittsburgh — assuming he’s even on the board at pick No. 21. His reporting also clashes with what ESPN’s Peter Schrager said. According to Schrager, Sanders spent five hours at the Steelers’ facility meeting with head coach Mike Tomlin. He also met with offensive coordinator Arthur Smith and toured the building. Schrager believes the Steelers will take Sanders if he drops to them.
“That, to me, seems like a good backstop. If worst comes to worst for Shedeur, 21 would be a really nice place for him to go. It would be a really good situation considering the weapons, the organization, the culture, the city.”
The conflicting reports continue a trend: Sanders is one of the most polarizing prospects in the NFL draft. Projections for him range from going as high as No. 2 overall to the Cleveland Browns to falling entirely out of the first round.
Sanders Holds Private Workout With New York Giants
Sanders will spend Thursday, April 17, with the New York Giants brass. Head coach Brian Daboll will lead a group to Boulder, Colo., for one last meeting. The Giants were already at Colorado’s training facility on April 4 to see Sanders throw at the Colorado Showcase, but they want another look with the draft just two weeks away.
In addition to New York and Pittsburgh, Sanders has also met with Cleveland, the Las Vegas Raiders, and New Orleans Saints.
