DENVER (KDVR) — Halloween continued to be celebrated in Denver on Sunday, prompting law enforcement to send out a warning message before releasing reports showing how many DUI arrests have been made.
Nationally, 44% of arrests on Halloween weekend typically involve drunk drivers.
“We’re definitely seeing an increase in DUI numbers this long weekend. We’re seeing, unfortunately, an increase in the number of accidents,” Colorado State Patrol spokesman Ivan Alvarado told FOX31.
Douglas County Sheriff’s Office A warning was posted on X Reports that additional DUI enforcement is active on area roads, noting that weekends tend to have one of the highest DUI rates.
Many are already planning parties and events to kick off the holiday season at the end of the year. Law enforcement is encouraging drivers to make plans now to keep their vacations safe, including designating a designated sober driver, using ride-sharing or taxi services.
“You get into an accident where you hurt somebody, or you kill somebody, well, that’s going to make that great long weekend the reason you’re probably going to spend the rest of your life in prison,” Alvarado said.
Safety warnings include driving while using marijuana or drugs.
