Gunman kills 4, including police officer, in shooting at New York City office tower

New York (AP)-Officials said a rifle killed four people in the New York City Office Tower, including a police officer in New York City outside the service, and wounded fifth before taking his life.

Police Commissioner Jessica Tish said at a press conference that the officer who was killed is Dedarol Islam, 36, a Bangladesh immigrant who worked as a police officer in New York City for 3 and a half years.

“He was doing the task we asked of him to do. He put himself in the way of harm. He made the final sacrifice,” Tish said. “He died as he lives. Hero.”

The police got acquainted with the gunman as Shin Tamura, from Las Vegas, and said he had killed himself. Tish said he had a “documented mental health history”, but the motivation is still unknown.

“We are working to understand the reason for targeting this particular site,” said Tish about 345 Park Avenue, a commercial office building that includes NFL and Rudin Management, as well as KPMG and Blackstone.

Mayor Eric Adams said a man was seriously injured and remains in critical condition. Four others were slightly injured in an attempt to escape from the scene.

Adams said officials are still “revealing” what happened.

The observation video shows a man coming out of the double -rak’ah BMW and holds the M4 rifle before moving towards the building. Tish said that he immediately opened fire on a New York police officer when he entered the building and shot a woman who tried to cover and then started “spraying” the hallway with fire.

The commissioner said that the man had made his way to the elevator bank and shot a security guard who was covering behind a security office and shot another man in the hallway.

The elevator was taken to the thirty -third floor to a real estate management company, shooting and killing one person on the ground. The commissioner said that the man walked after that in the hallway and shot himself.

Tish said that the officers found a gun, pistol, magazines and ammunition in his car.

She said that the initial investigation shows that his car traveled across the country through Colorado on July 26, then Nebraska and Iowa on July 27 and arrived in Colombia, New Jersey, recently from 4:24 pm on Monday. She said that he went to New York City shortly.

No one responded to the door at the title included in Tamura in Las Vegas.

Tish said that Islam, the officer who was killed, leaves two young boys behind him, and his wife is pregnant with their third child.

The firefighting department in New York City said that the emergency crews were called to the Park Avenue office building around 6:30 pm to report a person.

Jessica Chen News told that she was watching a presentation with dozens of other people on the second floor when “I heard several shots exploding in a quick sequence of the first floor.”

She and others faced a conference hall and war against the door.

“We were really frankly afraid,” she said, adding that she sent a message to her parents to tell them that she loved them.

Local television footage showed lines of people who evacuated the offices building with their hands over their heads.

Some financial workers in a library below the block were dinner at Zawiya Restaurant when they heard a loud noise and saw people running.

“It was a crowd’s panic,” said Anna Smith, who joined the workers in the Finance Office building. They stayed there for two hours before they told that they might leave.

Tish says she believes that two officers were working in different parts of the building as part of a program where companies can employ New York police officers to provide security.

The building where the shooting occurred is located in a crowded area in the city center, and is located a short walk north of Grand Central Terminal and around the East Cathedral of St. Patrick.

During late July, New York City is on its way to obtaining the lowest number of murders and the lowest number of people who have been shooting than any year in recent decades.
