Over the years, Leslie Charleson’s Monica Quartermaine has been a pivotal figure in Port Charles. But most expected things to change when the veteran actress passed away in January 2025. It has been over six months since her death, but Monica continues to be a pivotal figure in General Hospital even today.
This has ignited a debate among the show’s fans on social media. While some expressed their disappointment over this, others defended the choice and claimed they would love to see a proper sendoff to one of the most prominent characters in the soap opera’s history.
The debate started when a Facebook user posted on a General Hospital fanpage, “Why do they still have Monica’s character still alive? She died 6 mos. ago. It’s time to let her go…” leading to many reactions.
“Because they’re going to give Monica a proper send off. I much rather them take their time and do it right then rush it,” one fan wrote answering this. “Guess the writers still do not know how to write her out!,” another user added.
“That’s terrible. All they had to do is have one of the butlers or may go up to serve for breakfast, and they couldn’t wake her up. Two days later, after she passed away, that’s terrible,” a third fan said.
Monica will most likely be written off General Hospital in the future. But for now, her storyline continues to receive mixed reception from fans. However, Monica’s continued presence is mainly because he show’s episodes are filmed months in advance. Thus, the new ones featuring the character were seemingly filmed when Leslie Charleson was alive.
