Robert Griffin III never misses an opportunity to inject humor into the sports conversation, and his latest post proves it again. After Mattel announced that NBA star LeBron James would be the first male athlete to be turned into a Barbie doll, RGIII took to social media with a perfectly timed reaction that’s getting plenty of attention.
Griffin, a former Pro Bowl quarterback turned analyst, is known for his quick wit and viral takes on trending sports stories. This time, he didn’t need a long caption or hot take — just a short, nine-word post and a picture of the doll to set off the internet.
Robert Griffin III’s Take on LeBron James Barbie Doll
“They did it. We have a LeKen Barbie Doll,” Griffin wrote on X, along with an image of the newly released LeBron James Barbie. The doll features James in his signature tunnel-walk style: Tailored suit, sunglasses, and sneakers.

Griffin’s tongue-in-cheek “LeKen” nickname instantly caught on with fans, with the post racking up 45.7 views, 88 comments, 27 shares, and 370 likes. Responses ranged from suggesting to make it into a body pillow to “the kids will love it as much as they love him.”
James Becomes First Male Athlete Named Barbie ‘Kenbassador’
The doll is part of a new collaboration between Mattel and James. The Los Angeles Lakers star has been named Barbie’s newest “Kenbassador,” becoming the first male athlete to receive the honor. The release celebrates LeBron’s influence beyond the court, acknowledging his impact in sports, fashion, philanthropy, and business.
Mattel says the doll aims to honor figures using their platforms to inspire others and create meaningful change. Krista Berger, Mattel’s SVP of Barbie and global head of dolls, said the brand wanted to highlight someone who reflects Barbie’s mission of inspiring the limitless potential in every child. LeBron checked all the boxes.
“Ken is Barbie’s longtime best friend and supporter,” said Berger. “We are excited to bring fans a new presentation of Ken that celebrates LeBron as a role model, his icon status, lasting impact on culture, and dedication to setting a positive example for the next generation to reach their limitless potential.”
James spoke about the significance of the partnership, reflecting on the importance of positive role models and why this moment goes beyond just having a doll in his image:
“As a young kid, I was fortunate to have role models who not only inspired me but also showed me what’s possible through hard work and dedication,” he said. “Now, as an adult, I understand how vital it is for young people to have positive figures to look up to. That’s why partnering with Barbie to release the LeBron James Kenbassadors doll is such an honor. It’s an opportunity to recognize the powerful impact of role models who instill confidence, inspire dreams, and show kids that they, too, can achieve greatness.”
The James doll will be available for fans on Monday, April 14, for $75. It can be purchased in person at select Target stores or online at Target, Amazon, Walmart, and Mattel Creations.
