Actor Max Ehrich, best known for his role on the daytime drama The Young and the Restless and his brief engagement to singer Demi Lovato, was arrested in St. Lucie County, Florida, on charges related to domestic violence. The arrest occurred late Tuesday evening, October 7, 2025, marking a troubling turn for the 34-year-old performer.
According to law enforcement sources, Max Ehrich was taken into custody and booked at the St. Lucie County jail shortly after midnight on October 8. The charge against him is battery on a person 65 years of age or older, a serious offense that carries significant legal consequences. Multiple reports have since confirmed that the alleged victim in this domestic violence case is Ehrich’s own mother.

The incident allegedly unfolded during a heated argument at the Florida home Ehrich shares with his mother. According to the police report, the dispute centered around her cell phone. The actor’s mother told authorities that her son “heavily abuses inhalants” and had consumed nitrous oxide before the altercation escalated. She stated that during the confrontation, Ehrich “chased her outside into her neighbor’s backyard, pushed her to the ground and kicked her in the thigh.”
Adding another layer to this troubling incident, police received the domestic violence call after someone reported that Ehrich appeared to be livestreaming the assault on Instagram. Video footage that circulated online appears to show Ehrich demanding his mother’s phone while she was crying in a bathroom, and later seems to depict him inhaling what appears to be nitrous oxide.

The arrest of Max Ehrich has shocked fans who remember his four Daytime Emmy-nominated performances as Fenmore Baldwin on The Young and the Restless from 2012 to 2015. The actor gained additional mainstream attention during his whirlwind romance with pop star Demi Lovato in 2020. The couple became engaged in July of that year after just four months of dating during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown, but their relationship ended abruptly by September.
Ehrich posted $1,000 bond and was released from custody on Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. He was also processed under Florida’s Baker Act, a mental health law that allows for temporary involuntary psychiatric evaluation.

The arrest came after a day of concerning social media activity, with Ehrich posting multiple cryptic messages to Instagram that raised alarm among his followers. His mother reportedly did not suffer serious injuries from the alleged assault.
As of now, legal representatives for Max Ehrich have not issued a public statement regarding the domestic violence arrest, and the case remains under investigation.
