Flock camera credited for quick ping of truck involved in armed robbery, carjacking

ARVADA, Colo. (KDVR) – Arvada Police, along with several other agencies, were involved in a pursuit over the weekend after an armed robbery and carjacking.

David Snelling with the Arvada Police Department said Monday that it all started after a shooting call near 54th Street and Harlan Avenue. When officers arrived, they found a male victim with multiple gunshot wounds.

The victim, who is now in stable condition according to APD, was able to tell the officer what happened. When the victim arrived in the area, the suspects, 26-year-old Leonardo Roman Martinez and 39-year-old Jesus Calva, robbed him, they said.

Snelling said one of the suspects attempted to hit the victim with a steel rod, while the other shot the victim twice. From there, they left with the victim’s truck, cell phone, and money.

The stolen truck’s license plates were then scanned by a Fluke camera near Upham Street and Ralston Road. Eventually, officers drove to 58th Avenue and Pierce Street, where they attempted to stop the suspects, but they took off.

The chase began from there and eventually ended at Interstate 70 and Wadsworth Avenue, with the two suspects taken into custody.

APD credits the Flock camera tool for helping officers apprehend armed suspects so quickly. The same Flock camera helped solve a fatal hit-and-run a few months ago, Snelling said.
